Despite not airing new episodes since Season 2, Solo Leveling continues to captivate global audiences as a top-tier anime. The anticipation for Season 3 is palpable, fueling its ongoing success. However, while the anime and manhwa versions are currently in the limelight, the original web novel series by Chugong concluded years ago.
Indeed, numerous enthusiasts of the novel “Solo Leveling” eagerly await the release of the next book from its author, Chugong. Although whispers suggest that Chugong may pen stories for some secondary characters in the Solo Leveling universe, nothing concrete has been announced or published yet. As a result, there’s considerable excitement building for Chugong’s upcoming novel following Solo Leveling, given that the spin-off “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” by Daul has now wrapped up its run as well.
Chugong Takes a Break After Writing Solo Leveling Novel
Solo Leveling Remains Relevant Even After Its Conclusion
- It’s been ages since Solo Leveling’s author, Chugong, released a new novel.
- Chugong is still involved in Solo Leveling’s anime adaptation, which likely takes their time away from writing.
Successful authors and creators often take a break following the completion of a highly acclaimed project with global appeal, such as Demon Slayer creator Koyoharu Gotouge, who hasn’t released any new manga since the conclusion of Tanjiro Kamado’s journey in 2020. Similarly, the author of Solo Leveling, Chugong, has taken a well-earned break after writing for over three years.
On July 25th, 2016, Chugong launched the webcomic “Solo Leveling,” also known as “Only I Level Up,” on the digital comic platform KakaoPage in South Korea. Later, D&C Media picked up this series and published it under their label Papyrus from November 4th, 2016, to April 18th, 2018. The comic has enjoyed great success, leading to Yen Press acquiring the English rights and publishing the series from December 21st, 2018, until June 24th, 2019, with a subsequent second edition released at a later date.
I feel like I lose a part of myself every time I get stronger. — Sung Jinwoo
Over countless readings, I’ve witnessed the remarkable journey of Chugong’s web novel. It spawned a hit manhwa and anime adaptation, with A-1 Pictures bringing to life Seasons 1 and 2 of Solo Leveling. With Chugong actively involved, it skyrocketed to global fame. Now, eager fans anticipate the announcement of Solo Leveling Season 3 and the live-action series, all the more so after the series scooped up awards at the recent Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Though the novel concluded in 2021, Chugong’s Solo Leveling continues to captivate, serving as a trailblazer for future anime adaptations derived from manhwa and novels.
Chugong’s Other Novels
Other Than Solo Leveling, There’s Only One Known Chugong Work
- Chugong also released a fantasy novel titled I Saw the King around the same time as Solo Leveling.
I’ve always been captivated by the mysterious figure known as Chugong from the sensational series “Solo Leveling”. Unfortunately, there’s scant information about this enigmatic character online, leaving fans like me in a state of suspense over their true identity. Despite their apparent preference for staying out of the limelight, they occasionally engage with Korean fan bases on discussion forums, offering tantalizing insights into the world of “Solo Leveling” and answering some of our burning questions. It’s these fleeting moments that keep us hooked and fuel our curiosity about this elusive character!
Due to the fact that Chugong primarily published “Solo Leveling,” his other novels can be challenging to find. The only known novel he released before “Solo Leveling” is a fantasy series titled “I Saw the King,” which was initially published on KakaoPage on February 16, 2016, four months before “Solo Leveling.” This series consists of eight volumes with a total of 200 chapters. Unfortunately, as of now, English translations for “I Saw the King” are not yet available.
“Weakness is not something to brag about.”—Sung Jin-Woo
I Saw the King” is a story revolving around a 32-year-old knight in training named Raul Leicester, who shares some parallels with Sung Jin-Woo from Solo Leveling. Just like Jin-Woo, Raul has faced hardships, including being hounded by loan sharks. However, fortune seems to favor him when he unexpectedly discovers two enigmatic gifts that could potentially alter the course of his challenging existence.
What’s Next for Solo Leveling’s Author?
Chugong’s Next Novel Remains a Mystery
- A What If story about Jin-Woo and Joo-Hee might be Chugong’s next project.
- Fans also want more Solo Leveling content.
To this point, it’s still uncertain what novel Chugong will publish following “Solo Leveling”. There’s been no official announcement about new projects on their social media platforms, despite rumors that they might develop stories for some side characters from “Solo Leveling”, such as Igris. However, in a post on the Korean website DCinside, they hinted at writing an alternate story where B-rank hunter Lee Joo-Hee continues to be with Jin-Woo. In the original narrative, Joo-Hee departs from Jin-Woo’s life once she recognizes that she can no longer keep pace with him.
Some enthusiastic readers are hopeful that they’ll encounter additional content from the popular series “Solo Leveling” following the end of Daul’s Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. They’re advocating for Chugong to pen a prequel to enrich the storyline. Regardless of what Chugong’s next literary work will be, fans will undoubtedly offer their backing. However, for the moment, it seems that Chugong may be engrossed in the anime adaptation, as there might be an announcement for Solo Leveling Season 3 at some point in the future.
