Harvest Everything!

What You Need to Know Before Starting Black Myth: Wukong

One vital piece of advice for beginners is to gather everything you come across in each area. You’ll find a multitude of resources that can be harvested. These resources differ in type, ranging from Aged Ginseng, Purple Lingzhi, Gentian, Jade Lotus, and numerous others. These are crucial for crafting medicines that can heal you, remove harmful effects like poison or fire damage, increase your attack power, and even enhance your damage resistance.

You can rely on my advice – it’s wise to have some medicinal supplies ready, as they will be crucial for overcoming the numerous bosses in this game.

Explore the World Around You

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share my experiences with Black Myth: Wukong, which, while not an open-world game, offers a substantial play area. Each zone I’ve delved into is intricately designed, filled with various paths, and presents numerous optional bosses that add depth to the exploration. Furthermore, these zones teem with a multitude of weak and powerful adversaries, each offering Will upon their defeat in combat.

Just as with Elden Ring, it’s perfectly fine to take down common enemies before challenging a boss in other games too. By cleaning out an entire area, you can earn enough experience points to level up slightly before each boss battle. If you choose to farm, simply let the final enemy defeat you and then restart the process.

Furthermore, what makes this game special are hidden pathways, concealed treasure hoards, collectible resources, and optional challenging bosses who offer valuable rewards and essential elements for progressing through the narrative.

Don’t Fear Dying

What You Need to Know Before Starting Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong may appear to be reminiscent of Soulslike games, but it doesn’t strictly fall under that category. Despite this, it maintains a tough challenge with numerous boss fights. Unlike Soulslike games, there are no consequences for dying in Black Myth: Wukong. If you meet your end during battle, you’ll be revived at the last Shrine you visited and can carry on with your adventure.

In the game Black Myth: Wukong, when a character dies, their Will (essentially their inventory) isn’t lost. Instead, they have to replay the same zone, defeating enemies along the way. The only consequence is that progress takes longer, but all items remain intact.

Visit Shrines Often

Each shrine you come across serves as a checkpoint. In case of death during battle, you’ll be revived back at the most recent shrine. However, it’s important to note that these sacred sites offer more than just a respawn point. Every shrine provides an opportunity for:

  • Rest: Replenish your resources, including health and stamina, but all regular enemies respawn (not bosses!).
  • Travel: You can travel fast from one Shrine to another, which makes farming Will easier.
  • SelfAdvance: You can choose which spells you’ll wield and respec your skill points.
  • Craft: Create weapons and armor using materials you’ve gathered in the world.
  • Brew: Craft drinks to aid you in combat.
  • Store: Purchase and sell items.
  • Make Medicines: Create consumable medicinal items to aid you in combat.

Additionally, feel free to procure goods from the Shop. These items can enhance your capabilities, either by inflicting extra harm on adversaries or increasing your tolerance to their attacks. Keep in mind that the Shop undergoes regular updates, offering fresh items, so make sure to visit often!

Defeat Bosses to Gain Spirits

What You Need to Know Before Starting Black Myth: Wukong

Wukong should be to gather as many Spirits as possible.

As you unlock Spirits, you’ll unlock that boss’ attack. It expands your arsenal of combat moves, allowing you to mix up playstyles and deal additional damage to enemies. But more importantly, Spirits grant you passive buffs that alter crucial elements of combat. For instance, some Spirits work like a Bloodied build in Fallout 76, allowing you to deal more damage when at low health.

If you discover that a game’s boss proves too challenging for you, don’t worry! You can always utilize the fast travel feature within the game and revisit the area containing the boss whenever you feel more prepared and powerful.

Consider Your Armor Wisely

In the heat of battle, you’ll eventually gain the skill to make your own armor. When you stop by a Shrine, you’ll notice a new option in the menu. By now, you should have the materials at hand to craft the majority of the initial set of armor – the Pilgrim’s Armor.

One significant advantage of gathering all available equipment in the game is that each armor set provides distinct enhancements to your character’s stats and abilities. For instance, consider the Pilgrim’s gear. When you wear two pieces, your running speed slightly improves. With all four pieces equipped, while sprinting, you amass a damage bonus that can stack up to ten times. This effect is particularly powerful when utilized effectively.

As you advance in the game, more powerful armor ensembles become accessible, granting increased attack power, defense, and beneficial modifications tailored to your gaming approach. Discover the one that best suits you, and the gameplay will generally grow less challenging!
