As a seasoned Hunter, I’ve seen my fair share of gear sets and Deviants that have graced the land of Astera, but the latest additions to the Way of Winter scenario truly take the cake!


In the game “Once Human”, the highly anticipated new PvE main storyline, known as “Way of Winter,” is now live on all servers, providing players an enlarged survival adventure that surpasses the previous scenario, Manibus. The Way of Winter introduces innovative mechanics and a wealth of fresh content to keep gameplay engaging.

There are numerous elements to delve into when it comes to the ‘Way of Winter’ scenario. Unlike the battle-centric ‘Clash’ from the ‘Prismverse’ of ‘Once Human’, this scenario places more emphasis on storytelling and Player vs Environment (PvE) interactions. It also introduces new foes, intriguing locations to discover, and exciting gear options to tinker with. Here’s a rundown of the ‘Way of Winter’.

In this setting, we venture into the chilly expanses of Nalcott Island’s northern territory, an environment far more unforgiving than its southern counterparts. Adventurers will traverse tundras, fjords, and snow-capped peaks as part of a fresh narrative centered around the menacing Vultures gang. Additionally, players will encounter various new types of hostile creatures called Deviations scattered throughout the map, including Shadow versions that are resistant to damage.

In the narrative of “Way of Winter,” the action is confined solely to a northern region, thereby making it impossible to visit well-known locations such as Brookham from the story “Once Human“. Instead, this northern region named Nalcott will introduce its own Strongholds and dungeons.

In the chilling landscapes of this survival game, it’s essential that there’s a temperature system. This means players must not only focus on sustaining their nutrition and mental well-being but also ensuring they stay warm in the harsh climate. Moreover, the weather conditions in Way of Winter are changeable and unpredictable, which can significantly increase the coldness level.

Keeping warm with cozy attire and hearty meals can ward off the chill, while in the game, you can construct Thermal Towers that offer heat over extensive regions. They’re not only useful for heating up but also serve as key defensive spots within your base strategies. Collaborate with fellow players to build and protect these Thermal Towers!

New Weapons and Armor in Way of Winter

Currently, players can utilize the M416 weapon. Distinguishing itself from other assault rifles, it boasts the quickest firing speed, yet it registers the least amount of damage per bullet fired. The Winter’s Arrival update introduces three distinct versions of the M416, in addition to novel editions of the ACS12 shotgun and MG4 LMG.

  • Creates a Fortress Warfare zone after 7 hits.
  • While in the zone, regenerate HP per second.
  • If HP is above 75%, gain bonus Weapon DMG.
M416 – Silent Anabasis (Legendary)
  • Chance to trigger Frost Vortex on hit.
  • Hitting targets with Frost Vortex generates an Ice Crystal, which can be shot or left to automatically shatter to deal damage over an area.
  • Your Frost DMG is increased, and it increases further when an Ice Crystal is shattered, stacking up to 15 times.
ACS12 – Pyroclasm Starter (Legendary)
  • Chance to trigger Burn on hit
  • Chance to generate Deviant Particle on hit, which can be picked up to enter Charged state
  • If you reload in the Charged state, all your ammo is replaced with Dragon’s Breath rounds, which deal Blaze DMG.
  • Reloading while in Charged state increases Blaze DMG per Charged stack until your next reload.
MG4 – Conflicting Memories (Legendary)
  • Trigger Shrapnel after every 12 shots
  • For every 40 Magazine Capacity, increase parts hit by Shrapnel by 1, up to 4.
  • For every 15 Magazine Capacity over 100, increase Shrapnel DMG.
  • Magazine Capacity +40

In my gaming world, I always find myself in search of legendary designs, and they can exclusively be acquired through the enchanting Wish Machine. Of course, it requires some Starchrom, whether you decide to go for a lucky draw from the Wish gacha or opt for a direct purchase of the blueprints in Once Human.

New Armor in Way of Winter

Way of Winter added two new Legendary Armor sets and two Key Armor pieces:

  • (1PC) – Cold and Heat Resistance +2.5
  • (2PC) – Gain stacks of Warm Sensation when dealing Elemental DMG. Deal more Elemental DMG per stack of Warm Sensation, up to 5 stacks.
  • (3PC) – Gain the Warm status (+18% Elemental DMG) when temperature is between 10°C and 30°C.
  • (4PC) – You are considered to be in Warm status when Warm Sensation reaches 5 stacks. Gain +7% Elemental DMG when environmental temperature is between 10°C and 30°C.
Snow Panther Set
  • (1PC) – Torso DMG Reduction +10%
  • (2PC) – When you are within allied territory or near friendly players, gain bonus Melee, Status, and Weapon DMG.
  • (3PC) – Defeating an enemy while in allied territory grants stacking Melee, Status, and Weapon DMG, up to 3 times.
  • (4PC) – When inside allied territory, sentry turrets within 7 meters deal 50% more DMG.
Fire Rune Boots
  • When a nearby enemy is inflicted with Burn, there is a 50% chance for a Deviated Particle to appear. Picking up a Deviated Particle increases your Blaze DMG for 15 seconds.
Snow Camo Gloves
  • Upon breaking an Ice Crystal, four extra Ice Missiles will launch at nearby enemies.

New Deviants in Way of Winter

In this situation, several fresh Deviants have been introduced, joining the existing ones sourced from Manibus and Evolution’s Call. As per the norm, players must explore the world to discover these additions, or accept tasks from Lowe. The newly introduced Deviants are:

Hydronaut FishTerritory Deviant. Can gather Sea Water or operate water purification facilities.
Invincible SunCombat Deviant. Explodes every 3 seconds, with a chance to inflict Burn. Increases Blaze DMG taken by enemies.
SnapshotCombat Deviant. Increases the Weapon DMG taken by enemies.
