Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has three downloadable content (DLC) packs available to purchase individually or as part of the Royal Edition. Players often wonder what the best order is to play these DLCs, along with the main game and side quests. Getting the order right is especially important because one DLC contains timed quests that could cause you to miss out on other missions if played at the wrong time.
An Overview Of Each Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 DLC
Here’s a quick look at each of the expansions for Kingdom Come II, in the order they came out. I won’t give away any major plot details!
Brushes With Death
The Brushes With Death DLC introduces a painter in the Trosky region who is struggling with his life. If you help him, you can have your shield uniquely painted – a brand new addition to the game. Later, the painter relocates to Kuttenberg, giving you a chance to reconnect and continue his story.
Legacy Of The Forge
In Legacy of the Forge, players step into the role of Henry, who returns to Kuttenberg with the opportunity to buy the old forge where his father learned the trade. But first, he needs to prove himself worthy by completing a trial to join the city’s Blacksmith Guild. If he succeeds, he can start his own blacksmithing business, taking on daily quests like fulfilling forging requests, participating in blacksmithing duels, and even playing dice games.
As his reputation within the guild grows, and he earns money, he can gradually repair the forge and his house. This will unlock many helpful features, turning it into a comfortable base for resting, eating, cleaning up, and repairing equipment. Beyond building a new life as a blacksmith with plenty of customization options, there’s also a story about Henry working to achieve his father’s goal: restoring the Kuttenberg clock.
Mysteria Ecclesiae
The Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC introduces a new quest where Henry is tasked with accompanying a royal doctor to Sedletz Monastery, located east of Kuttenberg. You need this expansion to access the monastery. Once there, Henry discovers a dangerous illness is affecting the monks and workers. The quest also involves solving several mysteries within the large and detailed Sedletz Monastery, which Henry will thoroughly explore.
Beginning the Mysteria Ecclesiae downloadable content might cause problems with any side quests you have that are time-sensitive. This is because Henry will be confined to the monastery for several days once the DLC starts.
What Order To Play The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 DLCs
The following order for KCD2 DLCs is best for the story and tries not to break any immersion.
- Complete the short The Lion’s Quest DLC near the start of the game while in Trosky.
- Play the main story, completing Wedding Crashers and For Whom The Bell Tolls, as access to Trosky Castle will be unlocked.
- Start the Brushes With Death DLC.
- Complete the Trosky side of this DLC before going on to the For Victory main mission, as free roaming is locked over the following missions, and Henry will move away from Trosky.
- After the Storm mission, meet Master Voyta in Kuttenberg and finish Brushes With Death at your leisure.
- Complete the main story, and finish any in-progress side quests.
- Play through the entirety of the Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC. Henry will be away from all other life for a few days.
- Start the Legacy of the Forge DLC and play at your leisure, with Henry settling down after his adventures to become a master blacksmith and townsman of Kuttenberg.
- You will hopefully have lots of side quests left to engage with while expanding your forge.
If you forget to begin the “Brushes With Death” quest while you’re in the Trosky area, you can always return there by using the coachman to travel between regions.
This order of playing the game makes the most sense for the story. It wouldn’t fit Henry’s character to establish himself as a settled blacksmith and respected member of the town while the main story is unfolding. He frequently needs to operate discreetly in the city, and being a blacksmith would likely draw unwanted attention. Plus, a blacksmith wouldn’t realistically be chosen to escort a royal physician, which is a key part of the Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC. Therefore, playing that DLC second is ideal, though it’s also fine to play it third.
If you’re more focused on gameplay than the story, you can start the Legacy of the Forge DLC as soon as you reach Kuttenberg. This is helpful because it immediately gives Henry a home base in the city for resting, eating, and managing his needs, letting you work on the forge throughout the main game. However, with so many quests already available, Henry might have to decline a lot of blacksmithing jobs from people.
