Overwatch 2’s newest Halloween event, the Haunted Masquerade, is here with a new game mode, fresh skins, and other exciting content as part of a seasonal update.
Overwatch experienced a dip in players around a year ago when Marvel Rivals launched, but it’s been steadily gaining popularity again thanks to some excellent updates, and this new content appears to be continuing that trend.
Here is when the Haunted Masquerade starts in Overwatch 2 and all the content you can expect in it.
When is the Overwatch 2 Haunted Masquerade?
Overwatch 2’s Halloween event, Haunted Masquerade, starts on Tuesday, October 14th, at the same time as the Season 19 update.
Overwatch 2’s Season 19 is getting spooky with Halloween events like Haunted Masquerade and the return of Junkenstein’s Revenge. Players can also look forward to new mythic skins for Lifeweaver and Kiriko, and for the first time ever, Junkrat will receive a mythic skin in a November update.
The new Stadium mode is expanding with three new playable heroes: Hazard, Torbjorn, and Sojourn. Players will also find a new item in the shop called Gadgets, which can provide a strategic advantage during battles.
Beyond that, the shop will feature its typical updates with new skins and bundles inspired by angels and spirits.
What is the Overwatch 2 Haunted Masquerade Mode?
Overwatch 2’s Haunted Masquerade is a special, temporary game mode. Before each match, you pick your hero, then choose a mask from another hero in the starting area. This mask gives you a unique power-up for the entire game.
Okay, so when you pick up a hero mask, your current character immediately gets a little boost. Like, if I grab a Genji mask, whoever I’m playing suddenly gets a double jump! Or if it’s Reaper’s mask, I’ll heal a tiny bit whenever I damage an enemy. It’s a cool little bonus that can really change things up!
There’s another cool benefit to masks: if you and a teammate choose heroes that fit the game’s story, something special happens. For instance, if Mei and Juno each have the other’s mask, their ultimate abilities combine. This gives your teammates a damage boost from an Orbital Ray and lets Mei’s Blizzard ability freeze enemies nearby.
Okay, so the Overwatch 2 Halloween event is shaping up to be a really fun, crazy arcade mode you can jump into with your friends all month long! It looks like we’ll be messing around with masks that change things up for our heroes, so I’m definitely going to try out different combos and see what works best. Sounds like a blast!
