When is Trading coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket Trading? Release Date Explained

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in virtual worlds and real-life trading sessions, I can confidently say that the wait for Trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket is driving me wild! The anticipation has been building since day one, and it’s like waiting for a rare Pokémon to hatch—exciting but also nerve-wracking.

Since the very beginning, trading has been an integral aspect of the Pokémon universe, deeply rooted in its essence. It’s only natural that trading is a hot topic among users on Pocket, and I’ve collected the latest updates to give you all the details about the trading mechanism in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Pocket version.

After cracking open numerous Pokéemon TCG Pocket Packs and whirling through my share of Wonder Picks, my collection seems impressively expansive. Yet, it’s inevitable that I end up with a mountain of duplicates. Having multiples of the same card is essential for leveling up the Flair in the Pokémon TCG Pocket game, but it can also become quite bothersome. There are so many adorable Pokémons I initially admire upon pulling them, only to grow weary of when I encounter them for the 10th time—or even twice in a single pack!

In reality, you can replace identical items, a feature that sets the physical version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game apart from its digital counterpart. Despite the trading function existing in the Pokémon TCG Pocket, questions regarding this topic pop up frequently, and I’d like to address them here and now.

Can you Trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

At this moment, trading isn’t available in the Pokémon TCG Pocket game since a message stating “Coming soon” suggests that the feature will be enabled in the future.

When is Trading Coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket?

According to the Pokémon TCG Pocket X’s social media announcement, trading officially begins in January 2025.

The article has been translated, and it indicates that they plan to introduce a new feature enabling specific cards to begin trading from January 2025. Gradually, they intend to broaden the range of tradeable cards.

On the first day, not every card can be traded. Based on my understanding, only cards that have between 1 and 3 diamond symbols will initially be tradeable. Unfortunately, this doesn’t include EX cards or other extremely rare pulls like Full Arts. They might require more time before they can be traded.

As a dedicated collector, I find myself in a familiar predicament: I’ve managed to complete most of the main Genetic Apex set, but there are still elusive EX cards and Full Arts that I’m yet to acquire. It seems The Pokémon Company aims to maintain an element of rarity, which in turn motivates players like me to keep buying booster packs in hopes of pulling those hard-to-get cards.

Additionally, keep in mind that Gold Crown cards may not become tradeable within the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. As we gather more information regarding the trading criteria for these cards, updates will be provided accordingly.

How to Trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket

The specific trading mechanism isn’t detailed just yet, but it seems plausible that a system comparable to Pokémon GO will be used: Players can directly trade items with each other when they are connected, and there will be a requirement for a certain amount of in-game currency to complete these trades.

As a gamer, in Pokémon GO, you need Stardust to trade Pokémons, and some specific cards might become untradeable entirely. In Pokémon Pocket, I’d guess you’d require a certain amount of Shinedust for trading Pokémons too. The quantity could be determined by the rarity of the creature, and there might be a limit to the number of trades you can make each day. For now, this is just speculation, but I can hardly imagine the system working any differently.
