Where to Find & Catch Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A (& Evolve Kadabra)

In Pokemon Legends Z-A, players can catch hundreds of Pokemon, including many popular ones from past games. The game takes place in the Kalos region, specifically in Lumiose City, and features Pokemon originally found in the X+Y games, such as Abra, a Psychic-type Pokemon.

Abra is a special Pokémon for a couple of reasons: it’s one of the few that needs trading to fully evolve, and it’s tricky to catch because it teleports away when it senses danger (or even sees a trainer!). This guide will show you where to find Abra in *Pokémon Legends Z-A*, how to catch it, and how to get Kadabra to evolve into the powerful Alakazam.

How to Find Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Where is Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A?

You can find Abra in several places in *Pokemon Legends Z-A*, especially on the rooftops of Lumiose City. Catching an Abra early in the game is a good idea because it evolves into Kadabra and then Alakazam – a classic and very strong psychic-type Pokemon.

To get an Abra early, head to either Wild Zone 1 or Wild Zone 5:

  • In Wild Zone 1, enter the zone and make your way to the area across the small pond from the lone Pichu. You will see a ladder blocked by boulders. Get a pokemon with Rock Smash to break the boulders, then climb up the ladder and go to the right. Climb upward, and you should see an Abra on the rooftop just to the north.
  • In Wild Zone 5, enter the zone from the central plaza and go to the top-left of Wild Zone 5 to find a ladder blocked by purple goo sludge. Use a water attack from any pokemon to clear the sludge, then go down into the canal. Look for another ladder on the left, climb it, then take the next ladder after a small set of stairs to find another Abra sitting on the rooftop here.

Stay Out Of Sight & Take It By Surprise

In past *Pokémon* games, Abra would usually teleport away at the start of a battle unless you used moves that stopped it, such as Drowsy. Catching Abra in *Pokémon Legends Z-A* works similarly: you need to use moves that prevent it from acting (CC moves) or defeat it quickly to keep it from teleporting away.

Okay, so I’m super excited about *Pokemon Legends Z-A*! One of the coolest things they’re changing is how Pokemon disappear when you defeat them. Instead of just instantly vanishing, they’ll be dazed for a little bit. This gives you a chance to actually throw a Poke Ball at them while they’re still there – which is a really neat way to catch them, and feels a lot more engaging than before!

Be careful when approaching Abra – moving too quickly might scare it away. It seems to avoid trainers, but doesn’t react the same way to other Pokémon.

When you spot an Abra, quickly crouch by pressing down on the left analog stick and hide behind an object to stay out of its line of sight. You can also try to sneak up behind it, but make sure you’re crouching first – getting too close while standing will still scare it away.

To quickly defeat Abra, either use a move it’s weak against or inflict a status condition like paralysis or freeze. If Abra gets a turn, it will attempt to run away, so start the battle with a strong attack or a move that limits its abilities.

If you have a Great Ball or a stronger Poké Ball, you can avoid battling Abra altogether. Simply sneak close, aim your throw without being seen, and you should be able to catch it before it teleports. While a regular Poké Ball will work, a Great Ball or better gives you a much higher chance of catching Abra right away.

How to Evolve Kadabra in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Abra Levels Into Kadabra, Kadabra Trades into Alakazam

Okay, so I’m playing, and I found an Abra! Awesome. I learned that it’ll evolve into Kadabra once it hits Level 16, which is pretty early. Usually, if a Pokémon has a third evolution, you gotta grind it up to like Level 30-something to get its final form. But Kadabra’s a little different. I can’t just level it up enough. I either need a special stone or I’ll have to trade it with another player to get it to evolve fully. That’s kinda annoying, but I’ll figure it out!

To get Alakazam, you need to trade Kadabra with another player. Kadabra evolves from Abra at level 16, and then trading it is how you get the final evolution, Alakazam.

  1. To trade with other players, open up Link Play from the main menu (X), then select Link Trade.
    • If you have a friend on the same network who is willing to trade with you, select the Local option.
    • If you will be trading your Kadabra with someone on a different network, select the Far Away option.
  2. Enter any 8-digit numerical code and share it with your trade partner. Have them input the same code, using the same options, and you should connect.

If you choose Kadabra (or get another player to trade theirs to you), it will instantly evolve into Alakazam when it’s traded. If you trade your Kadabra away and want it back, you’ll need to trade again.
