Where to Find Leeks in Stardew Valley

As someone who’s spent countless hours tilling the soil of Stardew Valley, I can confidently say that Leeks are more than just a vegetable – they’re a symbol of friendship and connection. From George’s beloved gifts to Evelyn’s special requests, these humble stalks hold a significant place in this digital farming world.

Approximately 8 years post its initial PC debut, Stardew Valley, an enduringly beloved indie game in today’s market, continues to captivate players. This farming simulation RPG has thrived since its launch, enriching its content and cultivating a dedicated fanbase. In the vast world of Stardew Valley, there are countless experiences and items, ranging from the extraordinary to the everyday. Among the common forage items in the game, few are as seemingly ordinary as the Leek. However, most players will gather a Leek on their farm within the early days, yet this humble vegetable proves more valuable than it initially appears.

Where to Find Leeks in Stardew Valley

In Stardew Valley, vegetables that grow naturally can’t be cultivated there. Consequently, Leeks can only be obtained either by foraging or using Spring Wild Seeds. During the spring season, Leeks can only be found foraged from four distinct locations on the Stardew Valley map. The skill required to gather Leeks is Foraging, and professions like Gatherer, Botanist, and Tracker will make the process of harvesting them more straightforward.

You can find Leeks in the following locations:

  • The Mountain and Backwoods, north of the farm and Pelican Town.
  • The Bus Stop
  • Forest Farm

Approximately 58% of the harvestable vegetables in these regions are expected to be Leeks during the Spring season. However, the likelihood is relatively low, around 20%, for both the Bus Stop and Rail Road zones. In contrast, there’s a 25% chance you’ll find them in the Forest Farm area.

Other Ways to Obtain Leeks

Apart from purchasing Leeks directly, another option is to sow Spring Wild Seeds. These seeds have a one-quarter chance of sprouting into Leeks. Spring Seeds are created by merging the four seasonal vegetables: Wild Horseradish, Leek (if available), Daffodil, and Dandelion. You’ll also obtain 30 Spring Seeds upon finishing the Spring Foraging Bundle at the Community Center, a task that is usually accomplished in your first year. It’s advisable to keep these seeds for Spring Year 2 and beyond when you can begin taking special orders for them.

Here are some reasons why you might want to acquire Leeks: They are essential for certain quests, required for the Spring Foraging Bundle, and useful in various recipes. Moreover, Leeks can be utilized in the Sewing Machine to create clothing items. For a clearer understanding of their uses, let’s explore what you can accomplish with them:

Recipes

  • Leeks are only used in the Salad recipe. The Salad restores 113 energy and 50 health; they’re sold for 110g. The Salad is also a Loved Gift for Leah, so you can give one to her to boost your affection.

Gifting Leeks

  • Players can gift Leeks to many of the NPCs found around Stardew Valley but only a handful truly appreciate the vegetable. Leeks are one of George’s Loved Gifts. They are classified as Liked Gifts for Penny, Leah, Harvey, and Linus. Anyone not listed consider Leeks a Neutral Gift or a Disliked/Hated Gift.

  • Leeks are required for the Spring Foraging Bundle in the Crafts Room.
  • During year two, Evelyn will request the player send her a Leek by mail, on the 15th of Spring.

How to Complete

It’s strongly suggested that you consider the “Gifts for George” special assignment in your second year, which will be posted on Lewis’ bulletin board. If you don’t find it during your spring term of the second year, you’ll need to look again in your third year. The objective of “Gifts for George” is to collect 12 leeks and put them on the stove in Evelyn and George’s house. The deadline for “Gifts for George” is 28 days, but only if you pick it up during Spring 1. The quest can appear at any point within the first, middle, or last week of the month. If you take it during week 2, you’ll have less than 28 days to finish it.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Just a heads up, remember to activate ‘Gifts for George’ before you start foraging for leeks if you want them to contribute to the quest. Any leeks you’ve gathered prior won’t be recognized for this specific mission.

As a gamer, I’ve found the most effective way to collect a dozen Leeks for this quest is by scouring the mountainous regions and the Bus Stop area daily. Keep an eye out for the area surrounding the bridge that leads to the Quarry as well. If you find yourself in a bind when it comes to gathering Leeks, consider crafting some Wild Seeds (Sp). Though the items that grow from these seeds are random, planting 10 or more gives you a slight chance of getting one to two Leeks. Good luck!

To quicken the growth of Wild Seeds, consider purchasing fertilizer, either from Pierre starting in Year 2 for 150g or from Sandy at the Oasis for 80g on Thursdays. The Deluxe Speed-Gro is available only from Sandy on Thursdays and it’s less expensive than Pierre’s stock.

In appreciation for your “Gifts for George,” Evelyn will mail you a coffee machine tomorrow. You can put this coffee maker anywhere in your house, and it will prepare one cup of coffee daily. Coffee won’t significantly boost HP or Energy (it increases 1HP and 3 Energy respectively), but it grants a +1 Speed Boost for 1 minute and 23 seconds. Additionally, coffee is cherished by Harvey, and generally well-received by all characters – with the exception of Jas, Vincent, and Leo.
