Where to Find Saltstone in No Rest for the Wicked

No matter if you’re playing No Rest for the Wicked solo or with friends, you’ll constantly be collecting resources. These resources are essential for crafting better gear and improving the Sacrament, so gathering them is a key part of the game.

Saltstone is a really hard resource to come by, which is frustrating since so many things need it. You’ll need it to upgrade almost everything in your town, so you can’t progress without it.

Getting Saltstone in No Rest for the Wicked can be tricky, but thankfully there are a few good methods. Here’s a look at the most effective ways to farm it.

Mining for Saltstone

You mainly get Saltstone by mining nodes found throughout the game world. However, not every node has a high chance of dropping it.

Okay, so I’ve been grinding for Saltstone, and it looks like the best place to find it is by mining Iron Ore. You can find Iron nodes all over the Nameless Pass, so that’s where I’m heading to stock up!

The Nameless Pass is the way to leave the upper part of Sacrament. At first, guards block the path, but they’ll let you through once you’ve talked to Lucian.

After unlocking the Nameless Pass, you can mine iron ore using your pickaxe. I usually find about four or five Saltstones each time I explore the area.

You can get Saltstone from any mining spot you find, so it’s always a good idea to mine them whenever you see one.

Digging for Saltstone

So, besides finding Saltstone out in the open, you can actually dig it up too! I’ve noticed there are a bunch of dig spots scattered all over the map, so keep an eye out for those.

You can use a shovel to dig in loose dirt and find useful items and resources. If you don’t have a shovel yet, you can usually buy one from a merchant in Sacrament.

You’re unlikely to find many Saltstones by digging. I tested it and only got one after about 10 to 20 minutes, so it’s not a very efficient method. However, it’s fine to dig occasionally while you’re already out exploring and doing quests.

What is Saltstone Used for?

Saltstone is a resource used to improve the shops in Sacrament’s marketplace. If you talk to Danos in the marketplace, you’ll find out about available building projects you can complete.

You don’t need Saltstone at the beginning of the game, but save it – you’ll need it later. While your first building upgrades don’t require it, the second upgrade for every building will.

Most upgrades need five Saltstone each, so you’ll likely use about 50 Saltstone in total to fully upgrade all the shops.

Because No Rest for the Wicked is still in early access, you don’t need to worry about upgrades right now. However, you’ll likely need more Saltstone later on, so it’s a good idea to save up as much as possible for future construction and improvements.
