Where to Find the Commander’s Safe Key in Outer Worlds 2

In The Outer Worlds 2, you can find the Commander’s Safe on the second floor of the Interceptor, in the back right corner of your room. This is the same room where you initially collected your ID.

To find the Commander’s Safe, check behind the table and the Moon Man bobblehead. Even though you are the Commander, you’ll need a key to open it. This guide will show you how to get the Commander’s Safe Key in The Outer Worlds 2 and what rewards are inside.

What’s Inside the Commander’s Safe in Outer Worlds 2?

After you unlock the Commander’s Safe, Outer Worlds 2 players will get seven rewards:

  • A collectible Tossball card (Tossball Card: Eva Wierzbicki)
  • A Bit Cartridge, worth 322 Bits
  • 2x Bypass Shunts
  • 2x Mag-Picks
  • 2x Numb Rum
  • 1x Ascendant Bourbon
  • 1x Spectrum Vodka

According to V.A.L.E.R.I.E., the three bottles of alcohol in the Commander’s Safe were placed there by Niles as part of his effort to stop drinking. You can eat or drink anything, including these alcoholic beverages, to regain a small amount of health.

How To Open the Commander’s Safe in Outer Worlds 2

Where is the Commander’s Safe Key?

As a huge fan of Outer Worlds 2, I figured out there are two ways to get into the Commander’s Safe! You can either hunt down the Commander’s Safe Key, or if you’re into skills, you can level up your Lockpick ability to 4 and have a Mag-Pick handy. Honestly, if you’re good with lockpicking, you don’t even need to bother finding the key!

In Outer Worlds 2, players can find the key to the Commander’s Safe by first examining the Crumpled List located right next to the safe. This list, written by Niles, includes a final note instructing him to hide the key with someone named VAL.

Okay, so I just read this note and it says I need to talk to VAL on the Incognito. Apparently, I have to ask her if she knows where the keycard to the Commander’s safe is. She told me that Niles actually gave it to her, wanting to hide it from himself! She then let me in on the secret: the keycard is hidden behind the Skip Drive, way in the back of the ship. That’s awesome!

Go to the back of the Incognito and crawl under the pipes. On the far side of the Skip Drive, look for a small key hidden on the ground between the railings at the back of the Drive.

Return this key to the Commander’s Quarters. You’ll be able to open the Commander’s Safe, which contains a lot of Bits, helpful tools, and a rare Tossball card.
