Similar to past Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 7 includes a powerful Magnum. The .44 Magnum in this game is one of the strongest weapons you can find. Getting it isn’t always easy, though – you’ll need to have collected certain items first. Here’s a guide to finding the Magnum in Resident Evil 7, and how to stock up on ammo for it.
Where to Find the Magnum in Resident Evil 7

You can find the Magnum handgun inside a trailer located in the Yard area of Resident Evil 7. To get to the trailer, you first need to solve the three Dog Head puzzle in the Main House. Once inside, you’ll discover a place to save your game, an item storage box, and the Magnum itself.
You can’t immediately get the Magnum; it’s secured inside a bird cage along with two other caged items. To open these cages, you’ll need to deposit Antique Coins – one of the game’s three main collectibles – into them. Unlocking the cage that holds the Magnum specifically requires 9 Antique Coins.
If you missed getting the Magnum in the Yard’s trailer, you can still unlock it later in the game. Just use your Antique Coins at the Mine Office in the Swamp.
In Resident Evil 7, you can find 18 Antique Coins on Easy and Normal difficulties, and 33 on Madhouse difficulty. While the Magnum unlock cage is the most costly, you can get it early by skipping the Stabilizer and Steroids cages.
It’s best to save the Magnum for the final two boss battles. For regular, powerful enemies in RE7, the Enhanced Handgun Ammo or Shotgun are more effective.
How to Get Magnum Ammo in Resident Evil 7

Magnum Ammo is hidden in specific locations throughout the game, like the Old House, Boathouse, Testing Area, and Salt Mines. You can also find a few rounds in the toilet of the Yard trailer after discovering the second Treasure Photo in Resident Evil 7. This particular Treasure Photo is located on a pinboard next to the stairs leading to the Greenhouse – you’ll pass it on your way to fight Marguerite.
You need to find the Magnum Ammo Treasure Photo before the ammo appears in the trailer’s toilet.
The best way to use the Magnum in Resident Evil 7 is to save your ammo for boss fights or to quickly deal with large groups of the tough Molded enemies, which can make narrow areas really challenging. However, the Shotgun is usually a better choice for general use, since Magnum ammo is very rare.
It’s best to store the Magnum in an item box when you’re not using it. This lets you save up ammunition for tough fights against the Baker family.
