Hytale is now available in Early Access, and there’s plenty to explore! If you’re new to this open-world game, you’ll quickly discover that Thorium is a key resource for upgrading your equipment.
Thorium is mined as ore, but you need to refine it into Ingots to actually use it. It’s harder to find than common metals like Copper or Iron, which can make it a challenge early in the game.
Here’s where you can find Thorium Ore in Hytale, as well as how you can smelt it down into Ingots.
Best Location To Find Thorium Ore In Hytale

You can find Thorium Ore in Hytale’s Howling Sands, the game’s desert area. Keep an eye out for rocks with green bits sticking out of them – that’s what Thorium Ore looks like.
Even though Hytale’s worlds are created randomly, the Howling Sands are still pretty simple to locate. Just zoom out on your map and search for sandy areas.
Before you head to the Howling Sands, keep in mind that it’s a challenging area designed for more experienced players. You’ll need good equipment to survive, as stronger enemies roam there. Make sure you’re prepared before you go!
To find Thorium, your best bet is to explore underground. However, it can also appear on the slopes of mountains in the area, so if you can’t find a cave, be sure to check the mountainsides.
How To Craft Thorium Ingots In Hytale

Making Thorium Ingots is simple: just smelt Thorium Ore in a Furnace. You’ll get one Ingot for each Ore you use.
If you’re collecting Thorium, you probably have a Furnace prepared. You’ll need it, because Thorium Ore can only be used once it’s been smelted into Ingots.
Thorium takes a bit more time to smelt compared to metals like copper or iron, but once it’s ready, you can start using it. You’ll need to upgrade your crafting stations first, and then you can use the Thorium Ingots to create new equipment.
What Are Thorium Ingots Used For In Hytale?

Thorium Ingots are mainly used for crafting Thorium weapons, tools, and armor. You’ll also need them to upgrade certain crafting stations.
Once you get Thorium Ingots, you’ll probably want to use them to make Thorium gear – it’s the next upgrade after Iron. But first, you need to upgrade your crafting stations to tier two. Until you do that, you won’t be able to craft any Thorium items.
Beyond just equipment, this material has a couple of important functions. Specifically, you need it to upgrade your Furnace to the next level, allowing it to process Ore faster and more effectively.
