Which Silent Hill Game Will Get the Remake Treatment Next?

Last year, one of the most surprising releases was Bloober Team’s reimagining of Silent Hill 2. Given the game’s iconic status among horror enthusiasts, there were many doubts about this remake before it hit the shelves. However, Silent Hill 2 successfully demonstrated that it had the necessary elements to retell its chilling narrative in a fresh, modern context.

Due to their recent triumphs, Bloober Team is poised for another collaboration with Konami. At the moment, it’s unclear what new game Bloober Team will develop for Konami, but there’s a strong possibility they might revisit the Silent Hill series. If a remake is in the works, bringing back the Silent Hill franchise could be their objective. The first three games in this series are legendary, and both Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 are ripe for a makeover. Guessing which game will get remade first is an enjoyable exercise in speculation.

The Next Remake in the Silent Hill Franchise Seems Obvious

Revisiting Where the Franchise Started

  • Silent Hill 1 was released for the PlayStation in 1999.

Among all the games in the series, the original Silent Hill, being the first one released, stands out as the one that needs an update the most. Over time, its graphics, gameplay, and narrative have grown outdated. The horror genre has significantly evolved since 1999, and while the first installment of Silent Hill remains a delightful blast from the past, its age is certainly noticeable. The original trilogy is renowned for its chilling stories, and while there’s a strong case for remaking Silent Hill 3, revisiting the story of Harry Mason and his journey into Silent Hill is crucial as it sets the tone for the entire series.

Apart from the work they’re doing on known properties, Bloober Team is also developing a unique intellectual property of their own. The forthcoming game titled “Cronos: The New Dawn” is a chilling cosmic horror adventure that involves time travel.

There Can’t Be a Strong Silent Hill 3 Remake Without a Silent Hill 1 Remake

As a devoted admirer, I’d say it would be a bit of a letdown to jump straight into a remake of Silent Hill 3 without experiencing Silent Hill 1 first. The two games are deeply interwoven, so Silent Hill 1 serves as the foundation, setting the stage for the events that unfold in Silent Hill 3. Remaking Silent Hill 3 initially might leave newcomers to the series puzzled, as they wouldn’t fully grasp the connections between the games. On the other hand, Silent Hill 2 has its own merit and can stand alone, but given the direct links between the first and third games, it seems wise to remake Silent Hill 1 first to ensure a coherent narrative for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Nevertheless, it’s worth considering that another version of Silent Hill might delve into areas outside the main trilogy. Although Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 appear to be the most likely candidates for remakes, Silent Hill 4: The Room could also prove to be a compelling choice.

Silent Hill f is the next fresh chapter in the series and relocates to franchise Japan.

Silent Hill 4 Shares Silent Hill 2’s Stand-Alone Storytelling

  • Silent Hill 4 is the first game not to be set in the town of Silent Hill.
  • Taking place in the fictional city of Ashfield, protagonist Henry Townshend must investigate a series of mysterious murders in his locked apartment that has a portal to alternate dimensions.

In the tradition of the Silent Hill series’ unique blend of psychological terror, Silent Hill 4 offers an engrossing narrative that extends beyond the haunting boundaries of Silent Hill and its cult. Similar to Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 4 can be enjoyed independently without requiring adherence to significant continuity threads.

It remains uncertain which Silent Hill chapter might be next for a remake, but at this moment, either Silent Hill 1 or Silent Hill 4 appear to be the strongest contenders. Given its need for significant updates, it seems that Silent Hill 1 is most likely to receive the remake treatment. With Silent Hill f on the horizon, the future of the series appears promising, and fans will eagerly anticipate whether additional remakes will join the lineup.
