It turns out that the central figure in Black Myth: Wukong isn’t Sun Wukong directly, but instead a common monkey from an ordinary background, selected by destiny to carry out a prophecy – referred to as The Chosen One.

In the early sequences of Black Myth: Wukong, we witness a fierce conflict between the legendary figure Sun Wukong and the mighty deity Erlang Shen. Following an awe-inspiring clash, the defiant Wukong is subdued by Erlang Shen, causing his six powers to be scattered throughout the realm. The scene concludes as the narrator remarks, “Thus ends the final story of Sun Wukong, a hero whose greatest love was liberty.”

Immediately following, you assume command over the Destined Character, who is a descendant of Sun Wukong. This Destined Character embarks on a perilous expedition to retrieve the six lost Artifacts that were previously in Sun Wukong’s possession.
