Who is Playing Lara Croft in the New Tomb Raider Games Revealed

Whenever a new Tomb Raider game is announced, fans immediately focus on the portrayal of Lara Croft, paying close attention to her appearance and voice. Luckily, the character’s updated design in the next two games – particularly Legacy of Atlantis – appears to be popular. It also seems likely that Alix Wilton Regan, who voices the new Lara Croft, will be well-received by fans.

It’s a tough act to follow, considering Lara Croft has been voiced by many talented actresses over the years. Shelley Blond was the original, followed by Judith Gibbons in the first two sequels and Jonell Elliot for the next three games. Many fans consider Keeley Hawes the definitive Lara Croft, as she perfectly captured the character’s confident attitude in Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld. Camila Luddington most recently voiced a younger Lara in the Survivor trilogy, and she’s now officially handed the role to Alix Wilton Regan, as announced on Instagram.

Keeley Hawes reprised her role as Lara Croft for a special appearance in Call of Duty, which led fans to speculate she’d continue voicing the character in future games. However, Crystal Dynamics has decided to go with a different voice actress for the new installments.

If you haven’t heard of Alix Wilton Regan, you might recognize her as the voice of Alt Cunningham in the video game Cyberpunk 2077. It’s hard to make a lasting impression in a game with such a star-studded cast – featuring actors like Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves – but Wilton Regan truly brought Alt Cunningham to life, making her a memorable character in every scene. Although her character Lara Croft is quite different and less powerful than Alt, Alix Wilton Regan’s work shows she’s a versatile actress with a wide range.

Cyberpunk 2077 Isn’t the Only Game The New Lara Croft Actor Appeared In

Alix Wilton Regan has also played the following video game characters over the years:

  • Samantha Traynor — Mass Effect 3
  • The Inquisitor — Dragon Age: Inquisition and Veilguard
  • Aya — Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Augusta — Wuthering Waves
  • Lea — Lies of P

Wilton Regan is an excellent pick to play an older, more experienced Lara Croft. She’s proven she can portray both strength and vulnerability – her role as Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect showed a softer side, perfect for moments when Lara lets her guard down. Regan also excels at playing leaders, as demonstrated in Dragon Age, and effortlessly embodies cool confidence, like her character in the Assassin’s Creed series. Even the success of Lea in Lies of P was boosted by Regan’s vocal performance, making her a well-rounded choice for this iconic role.

The goal is to create a Lara Croft who feels like a natural progression of previous versions, paying tribute to the actresses who’ve played her – from Heather Hawes to Camilla Luddington. Since the Lara in the reimagined Legacy of Atlantis will have already gone through the events of the Survivor trilogy, she needs to feel consistent with that portrayal. Then, for Catalyst, Wilton Regan needs to embody not only that experience but also everything Lara went through in the Legend trilogy, as the new game will continue that storyline. Essentially, Regan has to portray a Lara who’s a combination of all her past selves, with Catalyst aiming to show the most fully realized version of the character yet. Regan herself seems thrilled about this challenge, calling it the peak of her career.

Since Throne of Atlantis is scheduled for release in 2026, we can expect to see more trailers and hear more of Alix Wilton Regan’s performance as Lara Croft soon. Until then, fans will have to rely on the trailers shown at the Game Awards for updates on the two new Tomb Raider games.
