As a seasoned gamer who has ridden through the dusty plains of New Austin and the rugged wilderness of West Elizabeth countless times, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the whispers of a potential Red Dead Redemption remake. However, as someone who cherishes the rich tapestry of stories woven within the Red Dead universe, I believe Rockstar should exercise patience and allow the trilogy to unfold first before diving back into the past.
Playing through and defeating Arthur Morgan’s main campaign left an indelible impression on many, as they witnessed the vast game map unfolding for further exploration. One of the most stunning reveals in the game was that the developers at Rockstar had meticulously recreated nearly the entire western part of the map from the original “Red Dead Redemption.” Although this region was sparsely populated with post-game content, it ignited a desire in numerous players to reimagine John’s story with the same painstaking attention to detail as Arthur Morgan’s.
The progress in the industry is evident since the initial release of the game, and it’s clear that an update for this title would be beneficial. However, Rockstar has yet to share any information about a remake of their PS3-era hit, despite widespread fan requests. Some enthusiasts might be eagerly anticipating new content from Red Dead Redemption, but there could be merit in being patient for the remake’s release.
Rockstar Should Wait to Complete the Trilogy Before Remaking the Original Red Dead Redemption
Waiting to Remake the Original Game Will Result in a More Refined Graphical/Gameplay Experience
Given the immense success of the Red Dead series, there’s a strong possibility that the original Red Dead Redemption will be remade at some stage. However, for Rockstar, it’s all about finding the right time to do so. The initial game was an immediate classic and continues to be a masterpiece, but it has been confined to PS3-era hardware since its launch. While the narrative and characters remain as relevant as ever, its graphics and gameplay are beginning to look outdated.
It’s clear that the objective is to run the game on top-tier hardware for an authentic next-generation experience given the high probability of another Red Dead series installment. Since it seems likely that Rockstar will produce a third Red Dead game, delaying the remake of Red Dead Redemption until they have completed their trilogy would be strategic. This would allow them to polish the graphics and gameplay to the highest degree before applying these improvements in a comprehensive remake of the original game.
In an ideal situation, it would be wonderful to experience all three Red Dead games smoothly, as if they were newly released. A new Red Dead game could establish the pinnacle for the entire trilogy, excelling in both visuals and gameplay. Upon launching this game, followed by re-releases of the initial and possibly even the second game, players would be able to traverse the entire series as if it were freshly minted. Revisiting old favorites in a series can sometimes be challenging due to the differences between early and later games; for instance, the Borderlands series is often criticized for its earlier versions not measuring up to their refined successors. By reintroducing the original Red Dead Redemption after completing the trilogy, Rockstar can maintain a unified and seamless feel in the final, most polished version of the series.
Releasing a Red Dead Redemption Remake After a Third Game Will Help the Story Come Full Circle
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve found myself immersed in the captivating narrative of the Red Dead Redemption series. Much like George Lucas crafted the Star Wars saga with its intricate timeline, this franchise follows a similar pattern. The first game concludes the storyline, serving as the finale, while the second functions as a prequel to John’s tale in the original. Given that the timeline wraps up at the tail-end of the Wild West era, it seems only fitting that a third Red Dead game would be another prequel, possibly delving into the early days of the Van Der Linde gang.
If a third game is indeed forthcoming (which seems highly likely), it feels fitting to launch it together with a remake of the original “Red Dead Redemption”. This way, players could embark on the beginning of the gang in the new installment, re-live the golden era and downfall of the group as seen through Arthur’s eyes in the second game, and then conclude their journey by revisiting John Marston’s narrative – a tale that marked both its beginning and end. For such an iconic story in gaming, there’s no question that this would make for a satisfying experience.
