Why a Zelda Launch Title for the Switch 2 isn’t Off the Table

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 is palpable, and rightfully so! With its predecessor gracing us with the masterful “Breath of the Wild,” it’s only natural for fans to eagerly await another legendary Zelda adventure.

While it seems a bit far-fetched that we will see a new mainline Zelda on the Switch 2 at launch, I have learned to never underestimate the magic that Nintendo can weave. After all, who would’ve thought that Link would be exploring the skies again in “Wind Waker HD” or battling Ganondorf in Hyrule Warriors?

As for my hopes for the Switch 2 launch line-up, I’d love to see a remastered version of “The Wind Waker” or even better, a long-awaited port of “Twilight Princess.” And if Nintendo really wants to pull off a surprise, perhaps they could announce a sequel to “Cadence of Hyrule” – now that would be music to my ears!

On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder what Zelda and Link might wear for their next adventure. Perhaps a stylish Switch 2-themed outfit? Now, wouldn’t that be a clever Easter egg!

As the anticipated arrival of the Nintendo Switch successor draws nearer, fan excitement continues to grow. With each passing day, speculation about the console’s features and potential game lineup intensifies. A highly sought-after title on many fans’ wish lists is a new installment in the Legend of Zelda series.

In terms of Nintendo’s most esteemed and productive series, few can rival the fame and success of “The Legend of Zelda,” which has seen a new installment approximately once every 1-2 years since its inception in 1998. Given this cadence and the exceptional quality of recent releases, it’s understandable that fans would eagerly anticipate a new “Legend of Zelda” title on the Nintendo Switch 2 upon its debut. However, although it seems improbable that the Switch 2 will launch with a brand-new mainline “Zelda” game, the possibility exists for any form of “Zelda” game to feature on Nintendo’s next console at launch.

There’s a Chance The Nintendo Switch 2 Will Launch With a Legend of Zelda Game

A New Mainline Zelda Is Unlikely for The Switch 2’s Launch Line-Up

At their respective launches, both the Wii and the Nintendo Switch were accompanied by new installments of the main series “Legend of Zelda” games: the Wii came with “Zelda: Twilight Princess,” whereas “Zelda: Breath of the Wild” was included when the Switch debuted. However, it appears unlikely that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will launch with its own mainline “Zelda” game at its debut.

Last year saw the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”, while “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” didn’t come out until September. With whispers about Switch 2 potentially launching as early as March 2025, it seems quite improbable that Nintendo would have another mainline “Zelda” game prepared for release at the same time, considering that “Tears of the Kingdom” took approximately six years to create, and “Echoes of Wisdom” might have taken around five.

There Are Plenty of Other Zelda Games That Could Come to Switch 2 on Day One

As a longtime Nintendo fan who has spent countless hours exploring the magical worlds of The Legend of Zelda series, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the future of this beloved franchise. While it’s understandable that a new mainline Zelda release might not be ready in time for the launch of the Nintendo Switch successor, I firmly believe that other Zelda games could still grace its lineup.

Rumors have been circulating on the internet for over three years now about remastered versions of classics like The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess waiting in the wings. If these rumors are true, the arrival of the Switch 2 could finally be their moment to shine, offering fans like me a chance to revisit these timeless adventures with updated graphics and possibly even new features.

Personally, I’ve always found the open-world exploration and immersive storytelling in games like The Wind Waker to be unparalleled, and I eagerly await the opportunity to return to those vibrant lands once more. If the Switch 2 does indeed launch with one or both of these remastered games, it could be a truly momentous occasion for Zelda fans everywhere.

As we were nearing the end of last year, whispers circulated that a remake of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” might be underway, possibly tailored for the Switch 2. Additionally, speculation about an enhanced version of “Zelda: Breath of the Wild” for the upcoming console has been floating around during the past year.

Instead of just remakes or updates, the potential successor to the Nintendo Switch might draw inspiration from Zelda’s previous spin-offs for its debut title. The Hyrule Warriors series by Omega Force could make a comeback given it’s been four years since the last release. Another option is that Nintendo collaborates with Brace Yourself Games again, creating a sequel to Cadence of Hyrule.
