Why Chikorita Should Be the Grass Starter of Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Why Chikorita Should Be the Grass Starter of Pokemon Legends: Z-A

As a longtime fan of the Pokémon franchise, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I heard rumors about Chikorita making a comeback in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Growing up with the original games, I was one of those kids who chose the underdogs – the less popular starters – and Chikorita was no exception. The cute little dinosaur-like creature had a charm that was hard to ignore, despite its limitations in gameplay.

In a fresh and engaging manner, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is planned to carry forward the grand storytelling approach initiated by its predecessor by introducing players to an upgraded Lumiose City. However, it’s yet undecided if the unique starter Pokemon strategy from “Legends: Arceus” will recur in this sequel. If it does, it would offer another chance to revisit several starters from past generations, and since Chikorita is often overlooked among them, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” could potentially give its entire evolutionary line the recognition it deserves.

As a gamer, I’ve always been drawn to the cute and adorable Chikorita at the start of my Pokemon journey. However, over time, many have found it less favorable due to its gameplay limitations compared to other starters. But with the upcoming introduction of new forms and Mega Evolution in Pokemon: Legends Z-A, there’s a glimmer of hope that this overlooked Grass-type could regain the popularity it once had, like Bulbasaur, after years of fading into obscurity.

Pokemon Legends Can Give Less Popular Starter Pokemon a Second Chance

The Starters of Pokemon Legends: Arceus Were Already Fan-Favorites

It appears that the Legends series is set to carry on by reinventing known Pokemon in fresh shapes and environments, much like what was done in Pokemon Legends: Arceus for the Hisui region. The regional alterations of popular starter evolution versions offered players a unique way to engage with classic Pokemon, helping to breathe new life into the franchise as a whole, and this innovative approach is unlikely to cease.

Hisuian Forms Still Breathed New Life into Older Generations

In different generations, Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott have been beloved starters, each receiving unique regional forms. This variety caters to both veteran and new players. The dual types of these Hisuian Pokémon forms give a fresh twist to familiar themes, keeping long-time fans engaged, and this approach should be applied to the starter Pokémon that needs such an update the most.

Chikorita and Its Evolutions Deserve More as One of the Most Underrated Starter Pokemon Lines

How Pokemon Legends: Z-A Could Redeem Meganium

In previous games like Gold and Silver, Meganium’s final evolution often left Chikorita feeling overshadowed due to its underwhelming type advantages compared to other starters. However, if Legends: Z-A introduces a new regional variant for Meganium with an additional typing such as Fairy, it could significantly boost Meganium’s viability in gameplay and overall appeal. Moreover, if Mega Evolutions play a significant role in Legends: Z-A, there’s even the possibility of a Mega Meganium featuring yet another new typing for the Chikorita line. This would be an exciting first for the series to incorporate a Mega regional form, and the evolutionary line could serve as an excellent test bed for such innovative experimentation.

Letting One of the Franchise’s Cutest Starters Thrive in a 3D Environment

In a more engaging setting like “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, Chikorita could exhibit its connections with the world and trainers in a more authentic manner. With Lumiose City portrayed in 3D, this species has the opportunity to stand out, regardless of any changes made to Meganium. The roles that each member of this line has played in the anime already link them to emotionally resonant moments. Developing these characters fully within an urban journey could align well with “Legends: Z-A’s” potential emphasis on themes such as adaptation and transformation.
