Why Cyberpunk 2077’s Sequel Needs an NCPD Lifepath

In the fictional universe of Cyberpunk 2077, much like how Gotham City’s police force struggles with crime in DC lore, the Night City Police Department seems woefully inadequate to handle the criminal element. With numerous ruthless gangs terrorizing neighborhoods and territories, it’s no surprise that MaxTac serves as an elite special forces unit within the NCPD, swiftly dealing with these threats. The Trauma Team is also skilled at providing prompt medical evacuations. However, the dire situation of the NCPD leaves them pleading for help from Night City residents, asking them to take risks on their behalf.

In the game Cyberpunk 2077, V’s status can be seen as an unofficial badge of honor based on their interactions with dispatch holos, responding to crime calls, and preventing random acts of violence. Players have the ability to address crimes not only within Night City but also in the Badlands, providing a more personal look into the NCPD. While players can’t technically become Night City police officers or detectives within Cyberpunk 2077, the foundation for such a career as a backstory is already evident. This could pave the way for Project Orion, the sequel, to fully explore a police or detective career.

How Cyberpunk 2077 Tip-Toes Around an NCPD Lifestyle

In the game Cyberpunk 2077, character V is a mercenary who’s just as comfortable taking on underhanded jobs from fixers as they are confronting gangs and neutralizing their troublemakers in missions known as Scanner Hustles: Assault in Progress, Reported Crime, and Suspected Organized Crime Activity. Unfortunately, becoming a legitimate law enforcer isn’t an option for V.

In the game Cyberpunk 2077, the Streetkid, Nomad, and Corpo Lifepaths offer intriguing backgrounds, but it’s unfortunate that the option of being a police officer isn’t included, as it seems like a missed chance for expansion. In most encounters between players and the NCPD in Cyberpunk 2077, officers are primarily on the hunt for V when there’s even a minor disturbance in public areas. However, it’s hard to imagine the ‘Wanted’ level rising beyond three stars, which seems somewhat limited. This is an aspect that Project Orion could potentially address and improve.

In most situations, players can effortlessly elude law enforcement officers, but opting not to run or seek cover in an alley could swiftly result in the players being overwhelmed by relentless crowds of Night City police. Unfortunately, there’s no mercy given for side missions involving Scanner Hustles. It would be wonderful if Project Orion enabled players to pursue criminals with a fervor for upholding justice.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Lifepaths Have a Lot of Room to Grow in Project Orion

A character’s journey focusing on crime-fighting instead of criminal activities could be both surprising and captivating, given its unusual vantage point. Typically, the Lifepaths in Cyberpunk 2077 don’t offer much and aren’t essential to shaping players’ actions.

Occasionally, unique dialogue options pop up in the game, which adds an enjoyable layer of interactivity. However, players have the freedom to decide actions or follow their own path, regardless of their chosen backstory. One intriguing aspect of Lifepaths in Cyberpunk 2077 is how they position V at a specific location during the prologue. For example, if a player chooses an NCPD Lifepath, they would experience a distinctive relationship with other badges and gain a more extensive perspective on Night City’s crime scene compared to a Streetkid, Nomad, or Corpo.

In the narrative of River Ward within Cyberpunk 2077, players delve into the NCPD precinct, thereby gaining understanding about the grim realities and chilling elements that lurk within the shadowy realm of this sci-fi RPG’s universe.

In the world of Project Orion (specifically Cyberpunk 2077), it’s often the case that street gang conflicts are handled by other vigilantes or rival gangs, leaving the NCPD to focus on more pressing matters. A fascinating aspect could be an NCPD Lifepath where the protagonist is haunted by a cold case. If such a feature exists in Project Orion, there’s tremendous potential for what the NCPD Lifepath might involve, but whether or not Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is indeed set in Night City remains to be seen.
