Why Dead by Daylight’s Teamwork Perks Face a Slippery Slope

As a seasoned survivor of countless terror-filled nights in the realm of Dead by Daylight, I’ve come to appreciate the intricacies and nuances that each perk brings to the table. However, the Teamwork perks, much like the whispers in the woods, remain an enigma shrouded in mystery.

In the game Dead by Daylight, teamwork perks have been underutilized so far, and their future development seems uncertain due to several factors. While it’s true that not every perk in Dead by Daylight will be significant in the meta, teamwork perks face more disadvantages compared to most other survivor perks. At a minimum, they have some flaws that need addressing; at worst, we may see no further development of Teamwork perks in Dead by Daylight.

Introduced in the update “Tools of Torment” for the game “Dead by Daylight,” Teamwork perks are one of the scarcest types, with just two available: Teamwork: Collective Stealth and Teamwork: Power of Two. It’s worth mentioning that these two perks were both launched with the Tools of Torment update, and no new Teamwork perks have been added since then. Given it’s been over a year since any new Teamwork perks were released, their role in the game could potentially be questionable.

In addition, there are just two Invocation bonuses available, and it’s worth noting that they are relatively new, with the most recent one being introduced in the latest chapter.

Dead by Daylight’s Two Teamwork Perks Have Some Major Problems

Dead by Daylight’s Teamwork Perks are Cumbersome to Use

In Dead by Daylight, one significant issue with the design of Teamwork perks is their activation conditions. For Collective Stealth, a user needs to be healed by another player, while Power of Two demands successful healing of someone else. Moreover, these perk benefits last only if the user and the other person stay close. The effects, such as concealing scratch marks and providing a haste bonus, are reasonable but not robust enough to compensate for the high activation hurdles. At present, both Teamwork perks are significantly surpassed by other perks offering similar benefits.

Teamwork Perks Need a Rework to Be More Efficient

To make Teamwork perks in “Dead by Daylight” more significant in future updates, some adjustments might be necessary. Currently, the conditions under which these perks function are overly restrictive. A possible solution could involve these perks activating a temporary bonus that isn’t dependent on proximity, or alternatively, adopting an effect similar to Dwight’s Leader perk, with effects working only within a limited area to ensure balance. Future Teamwork perks and reworks of the initial two could incorporate these changes to increase their usage among players.

Survivor Lore Could Make Finding New Teamwork Perks Harder

In the game Dead by Daylight, the implementation of teamwork-based perks encounters an additional hurdle beyond gameplay mechanics. This challenge stems from the backstories of the characters who possess these teamwork abilities. For instance, Renato and Thalita, who have teamwork perks, are siblings. It follows that at least one of their abilities should be centered around cooperation. Future teamwork perks might necessitate another duo of characters or a character with a narrative focusing on teamwork or strong interpersonal bonds. If not, these perks could feel incongruous within the game’s lore. This unanticipated complication makes it tricky to introduce new teamwork perks for other Survivors.

In the variety of perks found in “Dead by Daylight”, it’s possible that Teamwork perks are often underestimated due to their lack of obvious distinctiveness. They aren’t as common, and their potential niche roles often get overshadowed by more universally applicable perks. However, it’s clear that future Teamwork perks in “Dead by Daylight” will likely require a redesign to make a meaningful impact within the game.
