As a long-time anime fan with a particular fondness for action-packed stories, I was initially intrigued by the premise of “Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?” Last week, however, left me feeling rather confused and underwhelmed. The lack of clear direction for the plot and Kai’s sudden transportation to another world without explanation left me questioning the point of the series.

Caution: This discussion may reveal plot points from the second episode of “Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?” titled “Rinne,” which is currently available on Crunchyroll.

Anime Title Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?
Studio Project No.9
Episode Number 2
Air Date July 20th, 2024

In the second episode of “Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?”, there was less overwhelming exposition and more focus on developing the characters and delivering engaging action sequences. Unlike the first episode which was weighed down by an excessive amount of backstory, this installment allowed the storyline to progress effectively after setting the scene adequately. Consequently, the second episode proved to be a more enjoyable watch for the audience.

Although the initial episode of “Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?” wasn’t its strongest, it faces a challenge in keeping up with the abundance of other fantasy anime premiering this season. For some viewers who sampled every new show and selectively continued, they might have abandoned this sci-fi fantasy fusion. However, those who stuck around for more were handsomely repaid with “Rinne’s” improved second episode, paving the way for a promising continuation of the series throughout the remainder of the season.

Enter, the Cute Girl Trope

Rinne Is Here for the Fanservice

Why Does No One Remember Me In This World?: Episode 2 Review

As a longtime fan of anime and manga, I’ve seen my fair share of beautiful, strong female characters who somehow find themselves in need of rescue by the leading man. It can be frustrating at times, as I often find myself rooting for these women to use their powers and abilities to save themselves. So when Rinne was introduced in this week’s episode, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes a little.

As an avid fan, I’ve noticed that Rinne got her share of fanservice moments, and one of them included a captivating shower scene, where her hair was artfully positioned to maintain a PG-13 rating for the anime. Like many characters in the fantasy-anime genre, she’s contributing to a well-known trope. Moreover, Rinne adds an intriguing layer to the storyline as she challenges Kai’s loyalty. Will he end up with his longtime friend, Jeanne, or succumb to the allure of the enigmatic angel-demon girl, Rinne? The future holds the answer, and it’s exciting to think that both women might capture Kai’s heart before the series reaches its conclusion. Fingers crossed that Rinne manages to break free from her tropey role in upcoming episodes and showcases unique depth and complexity.

A Real Goal Emerges

We Can See Where the Anime is Going Now

Why Does No One Remember Me In This World?: Episode 2 Review

Last week, the meaning behind “Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?” left the audience puzzled. We knew that Kai had been transported to another world where humans had lost, but were unsure of his ultimate goal. Was he trying to return to his original reality or was he planning to aid the inhabitants of this new realm? The purpose of the anime remained unclear.

In the anime “Rinne,” the plot of “Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?” gained clarity towards the end of the latest episode. The primary characters devised a strategy to overpower Vanessa, the Hero of Demons, enabling humans to triumph against their adversaries with Kai’s assistance. It is now evident that Kai will assume the role of Sid, the hero who had previously led humans to victory in his realm. The upcoming episodes are expected to revolve around this plan to challenge Vanessa using Rinne’s power, introducing a formidable antagonist and an engaging problem for the characters to tackle. This development adds intrigue to the series and heightens viewer interest in future events.

Jeanne-Sama, the… Man?

Why Does No One Else See She is a Woman?

Why Does No One Remember Me In This World?: Episode 2 Review

One intriguing element of the storyline this week is that Jeanne, the rebel leader, has been successfully disguising herself as a man. Everyone around her, including Kai, seems to be unaware of her true identity. Previously, during a public gathering, Kai had challenged Jeanne about why she was hiding her femininity in their world where they had shared romantic feelings. It’s baffling that in this new realm, almost no one is privy to the fact that Jeanne is actually a woman.

It’s puzzling for an audience member how everyone appears to have been deceived by Jeanne’s ruse. All she does to pass as a man is tug at her hair and speak in a hushed tone. The rest of her appearance remains unchanged from when she is being herself as a woman. This inconsistency in the plot seems unnecessary, especially since there hasn’t been any clear motivation given for why Jeanne feels compelled to deceive others. It appears as though this element has been forced into the story without much thought or depth, making it challenging for viewers to fully suspend their disbelief and accept that all the characters have fallen under its spell. If this aspect of the plot is going to be emphasized, a more compelling reason behind it needs to be explored.

Next week, it appears that “Why Does No One Remember Me in This World?” anime will progress with its main storyline. Let’s hope this brings us more thrilling battles, innovative weapons, and intriguing enemy concepts. If the series maintains a balanced blend of plot development and action, while gradually revealing lore instead of overwhelming us with it all at once, then this anime has a greater chance of excelling during this season. However, this will ultimately depend on how the upcoming episodes are executed.
