Why Fans Should Be Excited About Pokemon Legends Z-A

Summary

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A is shaping up to be one of the best titles in the franchise, and fans should be excited about it.
  • The return of Mega Evolution after seven years is a significant highlight in this upcoming game.
  • The new real-time combat system and the return to the Kalos region add fresh and exciting elements to this title.

Over the past few years, the Pokemon series has been under significant scrutiny from the gaming community, primarily due to the hasty production of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and the subpar quality they initially presented.

Due to recent controversy, some Pokemon enthusiasts have started to harbor doubts about “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, the forthcoming main installment in the series scheduled for release on October 16, 2025. Nevertheless, fans of Pokemon need not be concerned about this upcoming game, as “Legends: Z-A” is poised to be among the finest entries in the entire series, and here are several strong reasons why it’s perfectly fine to look forward to it.

It’s Still Pokemon

It’s Okay To Still Enjoy One Of The Most Beloved Game Franchises Of All Time

To this very day, nearly three decades after the launch of this franchise, the fundamental gameplay of the Pokemon games remains one of the most unique and user-friendly among all turn-based RPGs. The experience of capturing, nurturing, and battling with the iconic creatures from the Pokemon universe continues to captivate players, and none of the recent releases have deviated significantly from this winning formula.

Absolutely, games such as “Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Evee,” and “Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl” had their shortcomings in certain aspects, but they remain strong video games that are enjoyable for all players. Therefore, it is expected that “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” will be a fun adventure, even if the concerns turn out to be valid. Remember, this franchise is renowned and groundbreaking in the gaming world, and there’s nothing wrong with appreciating it.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Was An Excellent Game

Its Fresh Gameplay Formula Is One Of The Best Things To Happen To These Games

It’s crucial to note that Pokemon Legends: Z-A doesn’t fall under the category of ordinary mainline Pokemon games; instead, it belongs to the Pokemon Legends sub-series, which made its debut with Pokemon Legends: Arceus in January 2022. This game is still highly acclaimed for the innovative tweaks it introduced to the traditional Pokemon gameplay experience.

Arceus” was the initial Pokemon game with a semi-open world, offering players immense freedom to explore vast territories, discover and capture Pokemon, gather items, and much more. It also emphasized the single-player experience with thrilling one-on-one battles against Noble Pokemon. Since 2022, fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel to “Legends,” and given that “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” promises to reintroduce this gameplay style and further enhance it, they’re definitely in for a treat!

Mega Evolution Is Back!

The Long-Awaited Return Of One Of The Series’ Most Popular Mechanics

Z-A emphasizes Mega Evolution, which is a smart move since fans have been eagerly anticipating this battle mechanic’s comeback after more than seven years. Originally presented in Pokemon X and Y, Mega Evolution enables trainers to temporarily transform their Pokemon into new, stronger forms with striking designs for a limited time.

In the Eighth Generation, Game Freak chose to eliminate the Mega Evolution mechanic to avoid overlapping with other features such as Gigantamax and Terastallization. But now, much to fans’ delight, Mega Evolution is set to return in Legends: Z-A, taking players back to the Kalos region. And The recently unveiled Mega Dragonite has generated quite a buzz as one of the most anticipated examples.

The New Real-Time Combat System

Turn-Based Battles Are More Exciting And More Involved

In a new twist from the usual “Legends” formula, the game “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” introduces an innovative real-time combat system as one of its key features. While some fans might not be fully aware of these changes in gameplay, they have been highlighted in the game’s promotional materials and appear to offer a fresh, exciting experience that is definitely worth looking forward to.

Just like Legends: Arceus, the upcoming game Legends: Z-A introduces an innovative feature where players can actively maneuver during battles while their Pokemon are fighting. This time, players will also be able to swap out party members on the fly or even command them to dodge incoming attacks in real-time, reminiscent of the dynamic combat system seen in the Pokemon anime. This exciting new addition brings an extra dimension to the gameplay and is a long-awaited request from fans for years.

It’s The Long-Awaited Return To Kalos

The Sixth Generation Never Got A Second Chance To Shine

Nearly everyone recognizes the idea behind “third installment games” in the Pokemon series. Typically, a new generation starts with the simultaneous launch of two fresh titles (like Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire), followed by Game Freak releasing a third game several years later, enhancing and refining the original versions (such as Pokemon Emerald)). It’s almost impossible to overstate the impact these third installment games had on the popularity of various generations and regions.

As a devoted fan, it’s always been a letdown for me that only Pokemon X and Y were set in the captivating Kalos region, leaving us yearning for a chance to revisit this world and address the numerous issues while introducing fresh content. Thankfully, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is here to correct that oversight by offering me the opportunity to step back into an updated version of Kalos, filled with diverse locales to discover and a host of characters, both familiar and new, to interact with.

Interesting New Characters And Story

One Of The Few Things That The Pokemon Franchise Never Does Wrong

Instead of concentrating primarily on the Pokémon themselves or their thrilling turn-based battles, what often gets overlooked are the human characters in the mainline Pokémon games. Fortunately, it appears that Legends: Z-A will not fall short in this area, providing players with opportunities to encounter and bond with a variety of intriguing characters. The character designs for these individuals are exceptional and unique, including Urbain/Taunie, Jett, Vinnie, Corbeau, AZ, and Emma. Remarkably, AZ and Emma make a return from Pokémon X and Y.

Despite Game Freak and Nintendo not revealing much about the storyline of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it appears captivating thus far, as a significant portion centers around Lumiose City’s revitalization project and the menacing Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokemon causing havoc. Moreover, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have sparked much debate for various reasons, yet they deliver one of the most poignant, immersive, and emotionally resonant stories in the series, demonstrating that in this franchise, a compelling narrative doesn’t necessarily depend on the quality of the gameplay.

It’s The First Pokemon Game On The Nintendo Switch 2

The Series Is Making The Jump To Nintendo’s Next-Generation Console

As a dedicated Pokémon gamer, I can’t help but share the concerns of many fellow fans regarding potential technical issues in the upcoming game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The problems that marred Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were undeniably frustrating, and it’s reasonable to suspect they might reappear if the new game follows a similar development path or uses the same hardware as its predecessors.

However, there’s a silver lining. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have since been optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2, and the improvements are nothing short of remarkable on this latest console. The games now run smoother and look more stunning than ever before. Here’s to hoping that the same magic happens with Pokemon Legends: Z-A!

Originally planned as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 1, “Legends: Z-A” has now been confirmed to be playable on both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 at release. This means that players with the new system will enjoy the most visually stunning and optimized version of the game. Moreover, it’s likely that future main series installments (possibly even Generation Ten!) will be designed specifically for the Switch 2, which is an enticing prospect for fans.

Game Freak Has Taken Its Time

It Won’t Repeat The Mistake Of Releasing Two Games So Close To Each Other

The popular Pokemon series has been facing a good deal of controversy recently, with one major issue being the annual releases, which in turn speed up the development timeline and often lead to hasty completions to meet deadlines. A case in point is the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet only ten months following Legends: Arceus, a move that was critically panned and effectively squandered the positive momentum the franchise had at the beginning of 2022.

Thankfully, The Pokemon Company acknowledged their past mistakes and in 2023, they declared their intention to reduce the pace of releases for better quality. True to their word, it’s been three years since the launch of Scarlet and Violet in 2022 (with the exception of their two DLC packs in 2023). This traditional development timeline likely gave Game Freak ample time to fine-tune Pokemon Legends: Z-A before its scheduled release in October 2025.
