Why Horizon Fans Shouldn't Miss Out on Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion

As a hardcore Horizon fan who has spent countless hours exploring the post-apocalyptic world of Aloy, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming tabletop game, Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion. Having backed both the Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West games on Kickstarter, I’ve eagerly anticipated any new content set in this rich universe.

After the 2022 launch of “Horizon Forbidden West” and its following DLC, “Burning Shores” in 2023, it’s expected that a new installment in the Horizon series, possibly named “Horizon 3,” won’t be out for several years. Nevertheless, Horizon enthusiasts can look forward to fresh content based on the franchise before then. Alongside the upcoming holiday season release of the “LEGO Horizon Adventures” game, a tabletop experience entitled “Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion” is scheduled for May 2025, offering fans an exciting new way to engage with the Horizon universe.

Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion Explained

Steamforged Games, a tabletop game company based in the UK, is set to release “Seeds of Rebellion,” an upcoming cooperative, storyline-focused tabletop game situated in the “Horizon” universe. This is Steamforged’s second tabletop project within the “Horizon” franchise, following “Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game” launched in 2020. In this earlier game, players assumed roles of Hunting Lodge members to pursue and eliminate machines. Unlike the “Horizon” video games, players for both “Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game” and “Seeds of Rebellion” utilize tiles, cards, tokens, dice, and miniatures to engage in gameplay.

The Board Game” primarily focuses on players hunting and defeating machines. However, the expansion “Seeds of Rebellion” brings a fresh narrative to the Horizon universe. This storyline takes place around six months before the start of “Forbidden West,” where players assume the roles of Tenakth Marshals on a mission to investigate a vanished patrol squad and battle machines. During their adventure, they stumble upon a burgeoning rebellion against Chief Hekarro that could potentially disrupt the Forbidden West again. In essence, “Seeds of Rebellion” functions as both a prequel and a parallel storyline to Aloy’s experiences in “Forbidden West.”

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that the Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game and Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion weren’t just produced out of thin air. Instead, these exciting projects were brought to life through the collective support of the dedicated Horizon community on Kickstarter. We, as fans, played a significant role in funding their creation.

The Allure of Seeds of Rebellion

For several years now, fans have eagerly anticipated the chance to explore the world of “Horizon Zero Dawn” with friends in a multiplayer game. Although such a project is underway, it may still be some time before it’s available to the public. In the interim, supporters can bond over a shared experience by playing through a new “Horizon” campaign together using the tabletop game “Seeds of Rebellion.” This alternative platform also offers an opportunity for individuals not usually drawn to video games to discover “Horizon” and potentially expand its fan base.

As a gamer, I’m excited to explore beyond just fighting Tenakth rebels and machines in “Seeds of Rebellion.” I’ll be venturing out to nearby tribes and towns to engage with the locals, learning about their unique cultures and communities. Plus, as a Marshal, I’ll get to unravel mysteries lurking within various settlements. And that’s not all! Each machine or rebel encounter presents multiple options for me to tackle the situation. Perhaps I’ll set up some elemental traps to outsmart them, or maybe sneak past undetected with a stealth check. Every decision I make will shape my journey through the Forbidden West, so it’s essential that we work together as Marshals to make the most of our time in this fascinating world.

Seeds of Rebellion’s Miniature Machines

The miniature figures included with the game “Seeds of Rebellion” are a major attraction for many players. In the base set, there are four Marshal figures, nine Tenakth rebel figures, 17 machine figures, and large Tremortusk and Slitherfang figures. Players can enjoy playing with these miniatures, use them as decorative pieces, or even paint them like Warhammer 40K miniatures. Each expansion of Seeds of Rebellion introduces new large-sized miniatures such as the Tideripper from the Tide Expansion and the Dreadwing from the Sky Expansion. Any Horizon Forbidden West enthusiast would be thrilled to own these miniatures, not just the game itself.
