Why Injustice 3 Should Embrace the Epic Forever Evil Storyline!

As a passionate gamer, I’m eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Injustice saga, but it seems NetherRealm Studios is keeping quiet about Injustice 3 for now. Ever since the release of Injustice 2, fans like me have been on tenterhooks, waiting to find out how this gripping story unfolds. Currently, there are two possible endings that are considered cannon in the game’s story mode.

In one ending, we see the good guys (Batman, Supergirl, and their allies) successfully imprisoning the Regime heroes in the Negative Zone. This is a ray of hope for those who yearn for peace and justice. However, the darker ending paints a different picture. In this case, Regime Superman uses Brainiac’s technology to enslave Batman and anyone else who dares to challenge his rule, plunging the universe into chaos and despair.

I can’t wait to see where this story goes next!

In terms of narrative direction, Injustice 3 boasts a wide array of options due to its two distinct storyline possibilities, as chosen by the developers. One advantage that sets the Injustice series apart in the fighting game genre is its extensive comic book source material. With tales spanning over several decades, there’s a wealth of stories to draw inspiration from. Granted, some stories are better than others, but the most compelling comics make for an excellent basis for an engaging video game. Among these, none could be more fitting for a gripping narrative than a 2013-2014 crossover event from DC Comics.

Injustice 3 Should Be Based on the Forever Evil Storyline

In a significant comic book crossover titled “Forever Evil,” the Justice League was assumed deceased and replaced by malicious doppelgangers hailing from another dimension – the Crime Syndicate, a group of villains notorious in their world. With the genuine Justice League absent, the planet’s protection fell to the least expected protectors: DC Universe’s most formidable villains, such as Lex Luthor, Black Manta, Solomon Grundy, Bane, Catwoman, Sinestro, and others. These nefarious characters pooled their best (and darkest) instincts in an attempt to counter the League’s evil twins. Eventually, they managed to prolong time until the original Justice League regained their positions, restoring order once more.

Injustice Already Borrows a Lot From Forever Evil

If this plot seems reminiscent to fans of Injustice, it indeed does. The narrative of Forever Evil shares many fundamental elements with the Injustice story. Features such as villains from an alternate reality, a Lex Luthor who turns benevolent to thwart an evil Superman, and unconventional allies joining forces against a greater danger are all key components of the game’s plot. However, it’s unlikely that Injustice: Gods Among Us deliberately borrowed ideas from Forever Evil as the comic arc started in 2013, the same year the game was released. Yet, if there is an Injustice 3, it might draw heavily from the comic storyline.

If NetherRealm chooses to proceed with the positive ending of the second game by reintroducing Superman and the Regime, it might feel a bit repetitive. To avoid continually rehashing the same concept with the now unforgivably evil Regime versions of Superman and Wonder Woman, they could instead introduce the Crime Syndicate. This way, they can maintain the theme of an evil Justice League without treading over familiar ground.

Instead, the storyline of “Forever Evil” spread throughout the entire DC Universe. The narrative of “Injustice 3” might draw on this plot, potentially introducing some intriguing new characters. Many key figures from the comic event have either not been prominently featured in the series or have been absent from the storyline in both games.

Major Forever Evil Characters That Could Appear in Injustice 3’s Story

  • Giganta
  • Deathstroke
  • Trickster
  • Copperhead
  • Sinestro
  • Bizarro
  • Black Manta

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel that “Forever Evil” stands as one of the most triumphant tales from DC Comics’ New 52 era, yet it seems to have slipped under the radar for many outside its original comic book format. LEGO game enthusiasts might recognize some of its key plot points in LEGO DC Supervillains, but that’s about as far as its adaptations have gone so far. It’s hard not to notice that NetherRealm Studios is sitting on one of the finest comic stories from the last decade, and weaving aspects of it into Injustice 3 would undeniably be a shrewd move on their part.
