As a gamer, I was on the edge of my seat, watching as TikTok’s days dwindled down to nothing in the U.S. It seemed like forever ago when the news broke that this viral social media sensation was destined for a ban within our borders. But just when we thought all hope was lost, there came a last-minute twist! Now, it appears TikTok will continue to entertain us Americans again, and I’m grateful for the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that made it possible.
In April 2024, President Joe Biden approved a law that prohibited the use of TikTok within the United States starting from January 19, 2025, as initially planned. Consequently, TikTok was no longer accessible in the US. This legislation affected millions of users and content creators significantly, causing substantial alterations in the social media environment.
The strategy held up until TikTok unexpectedly resumed operation in the U.S. Many are puzzled about the app’s continuation given President Biden’s order, so let me shed some light on this issue.
Who Brought TikTok Back in The US?
Future president Donald Trump is the reason TikTok is back in the United States.
The incoming American president has expressed his views on TikTok, stating that he does not support a ban because he believes the platform’s financial value is too significant to forfeit.
Why is TikTok Working Again?
Donald Trump hinted at signing an executive order on Tuesday, January 20, aiming to delay the implementation of the law’s restrictions.
Trump published a strong message on Truth Social, urging businesses not to allow TikTok to remain offline. He clarified his plans for TikTok’s future in the U.S., suggesting that its presence here would continue.
Trump announced in his post that he plans to sign an executive order on Monday, delaying the enforcement of certain laws to give us time to negotiate and secure our national security. This order will also ensure that no company will be held accountable for any actions taken to prevent TikTok from shutting down prior to this order.
He further explains that he aims for “the United States to hold half the ownership stake in a partnership with TikTok.” This move, as he sees it, will ensure TikTok’s survival and maintain its integrity. Trump has suggested a partnership between TikTok and the U.S., valuing it at potentially hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars for America.
On January 20, Donald Trump resumes his presidency, and it appears that TikTok may continue operating in the U.S. for the long term due to his plans. A partnership that benefits the U.S. from TikTok seems preferable compared to having no TikTok at all, and this move could be strategic and potentially garner support from some American citizens.

Besides TikTok, other apps like Marvel Snap and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang were affected as well due to the TikTok ban.
