Why Juno is Currently At The Top Of Overwatch 2's Meta

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that Juno has taken the Overwatch 2 scene by storm. Coming from someone who’s seen heroes like Tracer and Widowmaker dominate the game, it’s refreshing to see a balanced character like Juno rise through the ranks.

The 12th season of Overwatch 2 has reached its halfway mark, with Season 13 set for a mid-October release. This season debuted the five-point game mode, Clash, and a new support hero, Juno, who is the 41st character in the game. Juno has garnered attention for her unique mobility features and speed boost capabilities. Despite lacking burst healing or invincibility or crowd control tools, she is considered one of the more balanced support heroes in Overwatch 2. However, her lack of overpowered abilities hasn’t prevented her from climbing to the top in competitive play.

After modifications made during her trial in Season 11, Juno exhibits a wide range of capabilities through the use of Martian Overboots, Glide Boost, Pulsar Torpedoes, and Hyper Ring. Consequently, Juno is currently ruling the game dynamics in Overwatch 2, although characters like Ana, Brigitte, and Kiriko continue to be formidable opponents. A combination of aspects makes Juno highly sought-after, despite complaints about her dependence on passive self-healing.

Juno Is Currently The Most Picked Support Hero In Overwatch 2

Why Juno is Currently At The Top Of Overwatch 2's Meta

Juno’s Winrate Remains Above 50%

On the Top 500 NA PC leaderboard’s front page, Juno is one of the nine heroes most frequently featured out of ten. In competitive play on PC, she’s chosen about 9.22% of the time across all skill levels, and her win rate is 53%. This is significantly higher than Ana, the next most popular support hero, which has a pick rate of 7.07% and a win rate of 48%, as shown by Overbuff’s statistics.

Ever since Season 12 kicked off, I’ve been thoroughly impressed by the dynamic duo of Brigitte and Juno. They’ve been making waves in competitive scenes like the Calling All Heroes Series, and their teamwork is truly something to behold.

Juno Adds Significant Utility For Her Team

Juno’s Mediblaster, a hitscan weapon, thrives on precision, offering both significant healing and damage output. As a Flex Support character, she shares similarities with Baptiste and Moira, relying on abilities with cooldown periods for optimal utility, requiring a high degree of mechanical skill to fully exploit her potential. Her movement style, which is reminiscent of Echo’s flight, adds allure to her selection, but her performance can significantly decrease if shots are missed, thus underscoring the importance of accuracy.

Beyond that, Juno brought a swift-moving meta to Overwatch 2 mainly because of her Hyper Ring, which functions as a versatile tool for maneuvering during retreats, flanking attacks, or rapid advancement against enemies. When partnered with tanks such as Junker Queen, Reinhardt, or D.Va, her speed boost becomes a significant threat. However, it’s worth noting that in the past few weeks, Juno’s Hyper Ring has stirred up controversy concerning D.Va, as the tank hero has been under scrutiny for potentially being overpowered in the ranked mode.

In the 17th of September, Blizzard fixed an issue where D.Va’s Boosters could combine additively with abilities that increased speed, like Juno’s Hyper Ring, to enhance movement speed multiplicatively instead.

It’s worth noting that although August, a top 500 streamer for Overwatch 2, has pointed out a glitch making Juno seem slower while strafing in Hyper Ring, her vertical mobility remains crucial to her high durability. Furthermore, her Pulsar Torpedoes possess a gradual yet dependable lock-on function for both teammates and opponents. Combined with an ultimate that mirrors a mix of Orisa’s original Supercharger ultimate and Lifeweaver’s Tree of Life, Juno is undoubtedly making a strong impact in the current game meta.
