Why Oblivion Remastered is Better Than a Full Remake for New Players!

One thing I truly appreciate about “Oblivion Remastered” stands out among other aspects – it isn’t a complete overhaul, unlike some games such as the recent “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.” While I did enjoy last year’s “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” there’s a certain nostalgic appeal in having a remastered version of “Oblivion” that stays closer to its original form rather than being an entirely new game with fresh mechanics.

To set the record straight, it’s important to clarify that Oblivion Remastered isn’t merely a cosmetic upgrade, and some have even speculated if it’s more than just a remaster. However, although there are tweaks to the gameplay, it appears that a deliberate effort was made to preserve the gaming experience as similar to the original version as feasible. In my opinion, this was an excellent choice by Bethesda, and here’s why: I haven’t had the chance to play Oblivion before.

Oblivion Being Remastered Will Keep It Closer To The Original

Oblivion Remastered Preserving Much Of The Original Game Is Perfect For A First-Time Player

As a gaming enthusiast, I eagerly tuned into Bethesda’s YouTube reveal of Oblivion Remastered. Todd Howard shared that they aimed to preserve the core essence or “bones” of Oblivion, ensuring it retained its vintage charm. Essentially, they wanted to replicate the thrill of playing the original Oblivion for the first time. For a novice like me who hasn’t experienced the original yet, this remastered version seems like a fantastic opportunity to immerse myself in that nostalgic gaming feeling.

Initially, I thought about diving into Oblivion after completing Skyrim for the first time, but I never followed through with that plan. Truth be told, my decision was quite superficial. I’m not particularly fond of how older 3D graphics appear, and if I’m playing an old game, I find it easier to get back into it when the presentation style is more timeless, such as pixel art. However, with the release of Oblivion Remastered, I now have the opportunity to experience the original game or a version very similar to it, but with stunning new visuals.

Remakes Are Perfect For Old Players, But New Players Might Miss Something

Remakes Can Sometimes Lose Some Of The Original’s Charm

It’s understandable why someone who has spent numerous hours on the original Oblivion might have opted for a complete remake, as it promises a fresh experience and potentially hints at what we can expect from the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6. However, completely remaking the game could mean that players like me miss out on some of the charming quirks that make Oblivion unique. For instance, the intention to keep an old dialogue mistake in Oblivion Remastered and even add lip sync to it, as pointed out by YouTuber Mao Deegan.

Moving ahead, it would be delightful to witness additional titles emulating the quality of the Oblivion Remastered. Indeed, a game’s refresh should address issues such as awkward user interfaces and outdated visuals; however, maintaining elements that initially charmed players is equally crucial. Furthermore, I wouldn’t mind if more games surprise us with simultaneous release dates on the launch day.
