As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of gaming trends come and go. From the apocalyptic wasteland of Fallout to the vibrant, creature-filled world of Palworld, I’ve been there, done that. When Starry Studio announced their latest venture, Once Human, my curiosity was piqued.
Starry Studio’s game titled “Once Human” showcases a diverse mix of genres and is not devoid of imitation. As a free-to-play multiplayer survival game set in a post-apocalyptic open world, “Once Human” can draw from numerous sources for inspiration, such as games like “Tom Clancy’s The Division“, “State of Decay“, and surprisingly, Pocketpair’s “Palworld“. While “Palworld” is well-known for its cutesy creatures reminiscent of “Pokemon“, it shares more similarities with “Once Human” than one might initially think.
Even though Palworld regularly offers new updates, some players might yearn for a change from its cheerful and tranquil environment. If this sounds like you, Once Human could potentially fulfill your needs, providing a contrast to Palworld with its more intense, somber, and challenging aspects. In fact, giving Once Human a try might be worthwhile for fans of Palworld, especially since it’s a free-to-play game that requires only your time in the long run.
Once Human and Palworld Have Some Things in Common
Once Human and Palworld Are Both Third-person Shooters With Base Building
The main connection between Palworld and Once Human is that they are both third-person shooters with building aspects. While there are many third-person shooters available, a simple comparison based on this trait alone might not seem significant enough to warrant comparisons. In truth, from a third-person shooter perspective, Once Human has been likened more to Tom Clancy’s The Division than any other game. Nevertheless, the unique similarities that Once Human shares with Palworld, particularly in base building and creature collection, lead critics to compare its shooting elements to those of Palworld, which is a popular base-building and creature-collecting game by Pocketpair.
In many survival games like Palworld, players can construct larger and more intricate bases over time in Once Human. An interesting aspect of Once Human is that you can design a blueprint for a house and transfer it to a different location, a feature not yet available in Palworld (though it may be added later). One key distinction between the two games is that Once Human’s servers are seasonal, meaning they reset every player’s level, progress, and structures built. However, players can keep their house blueprint after a server wipe, allowing them to rebuild when they have the required materials.
Once Human and Palworld Both Have Some Form of Creature Collecting
In the captivating world of Palworld, what draws players in most is the Pokemon-esque creature collection, a feature that also exists in Once Human. Instead of gathering cute creatures like in Palworld, players in Once Human collect strange Deviants, which serve dual purposes: they aid in combat and contribute back at the player’s base. For instance, Festering Gel can create a protective shield when thrown, and Digby Boy assists in collecting various minerals for the player’s base. Essentially, the Pals in Palworld perform almost identically to Once Human’s Deviants, despite their striking differences in appearance.
If Palworld players find themselves looking for something new to explore in their vibrant open world, they might want to check out Once Human. This game shares similarities with Palworld, particularly its third-person shooting and base-building mechanics. One of the most striking similarities is the presence of Deviants in Once Human, which are reminiscent of elements found in Palworld. And what makes it even more appealing is that it’s completely free, making it an attractive alternative for fans of Palworld.
