12 long years have passed since I last stepped foot in the region of Kalos, but now it’s time to return! In the upcoming game, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” I find myself as a tourist in the bustling Lumiose City. The story unfolds after the events of 2013’s games, Pokemon X and Y, and I can’t wait to meet new faces and reacquaint myself with old friends.

As I navigate through the city, I’ll be battling Pokemon in the Z-A Royale. This time around, I’ll get to use the incredible transformations of Mega Evolution again as I search for the enigmatic Legendary Pokemon, Zygarde. The city is filled with mysteries, and I can’t wait to uncover them all!

Of course, “Z-A” won’t just be about Zygarde – it should also shine a light on another Generation 6 Pokemon: the Mythical Pokemon Volcanion. I can hardly contain my excitement!

The Steam Pokemon Volcanion, Explained

In the primary series of Pokemon games, there are two distinct categories of seldom seen and potent Pokemon: Legendaries and Mythicals. These Pokemon are highly respected across different game worlds for their roles in shaping or greatly influencing the universe. Unlike Legendary Pokemon, who often take on god-like forms and symbolize the games themselves, Mythical Pokemon are usually diminutive creatures that can only be captured under unique conditions. For instance, the Gen 3 Mythical Pokemon Jirachi could only be acquired in either Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire by transferring it from the Pokemon Colosseum bonus disc. Similarly, other Mythical Pokemon, like Volcanion, were obtainable exclusively through limited-time events.

In contrast to various theories, Volcanion wasn’t naturally obtainable in both X and Y, but could only be obtained through its special event. This event also offered players the chance to capture the Mythical Pokemon Volcanion in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. This suggests that Volcanion was spotted in the Kalos, Johto, and Sinnoh regions, though it’s unclear if these were the same Volcanion or multiple ones. The Steam Pokemon even starred in its own anime movie, Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, released in 2016. However, in the world of Pokemon, Volcanion’s ability to communicate telepathically with people, and its close bond with Magearna, haven’t been mentioned in any game.

The Potential Significance of Volcanion in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

It’s yet to be determined if Volcanion, along with its fellow Gen 6 Mythical Pokemon Diancie and Hoopa, will show up in the game “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”. Considering that Z-A is bringing back most, if not all, of the Mega Evolutions, it seems logical that Game Freak might choose to include all of Gen 6’s Mythical Pokemon in the game. This would help make Z-A feel like a genuine comeback to Kalos. Game Freak could introduce these Pokemon through events, as they have done in previous games, or they could be hidden away in obscure locations within Lumiose City. For instance, Diancie might be discovered beneath the city’s surface, while Hoopa could be found atop one of Lumiose’s numerous skyscrapers or buildings.

In the storyline of “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, Volcanion might take on a larger part. Given that Z-A places emphasis on rebuilding Lumiose City, the adventure could involve the player heading to the nearby Power Plant to prevent an adversary from exploiting Volcanion to impede the reconstruction. This scenario would symbolize the struggle between nature and industry, as Lumiose tries to maintain a harmonious bond with wild Pokemon, while Volcanion is used as a steam-powered device to disrupt this harmony. Such an event might pique Zygarde’s interest as the Order Pokemon. Another possibility is that Volcanion could be found in a distinct part of Lumiose City, where people are collaborating with Pokemon to generate power for the city using their inherent abilities.
