As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Pokémon fandom under my belt, I must confess that my heart skipped a beat when I first heard about Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s secret missions. The idea of completing challenging objectives for special rewards is always enticing, especially in the world of Pokémon. However, it seems that the game might have missed the mark, much like a Bulbasaur trying to learn Fly.
The compact version of the Pokemon Trading Card Game (Pokemon TCG Pocket) has gained popularity among fans who enjoy collecting rather than battling in the monster-collecting franchise. One reason behind this appeal is the game’s secret missions that require specific collections. However, these missions might not be captivating enough for all players.
The popularity of the Pokemon TCG Pocket has led many Pokemon enthusiasts to take up card collecting in a major way. Even though it’s just starting out, there are still many hidden features and tactics being discovered within the game, such as the secret missions in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Unlike the explicit missions that players can check for updates on their progress at any time, the secret missions aren’t openly listed. These accomplishments require completing specific card collections, like gathering all the gym leader cards or filling up the Kanto Pokedex, and offer greater rewards than usual missions. However, some players feel that the game may have missed the mark with these missions, as the prizes don’t seem to satisfy everyone’s expectations.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Rewards Must be Worth The Effort
In games where players go above and beyond by achieving tough optional objectives, they’re often given unique rewards such as special items, new game modes, or hard-to-find weapons. However, in the case of Pokemon TCG Pocket, it starts with a handicap due to its card game nature. As a card game, TCG Pocket doesn’t have many avenues to express gratitude for players’ time commitment. Typical objectives often grant players either Pack Hourglasses or Wonder Hourglasses, which can be employed to quicken the wait for opening new packs or use the wonder pick feature. While getting a few of these items for routine tasks isn’t unreasonable, fans might anticipate something more substantial for bigger challenges.
Unfortunately, when it comes to secret missions in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game, there’s not a lot more for players to sink their teeth into. Although completing these missions rewards you with a larger amount of hourglasses than usual, most of them still offer the same basic rewards. Some secret tasks may give players new emblems or avatars to display in the game’s social features, but arguably the most coveted prize is the elusive Mew card, which can be obtained by completing the Kanto Pokedex. Mew is one of only four special immersive cards in the game, making it a rarity, but its battle stats don’t offer much of an advantage. With only 20 damage points and 60 HP, Mew is on par with basic Pokemon cards, far from the legendary creature that players have worked hard to earn.
Generally speaking, successful completion of secret missions provides players with 36 Wonder Hourglasses, 12 Pack Hourglasses, and 10 Shop Tickets as rewards. Essentially, these hourglasses offer the same benefits as three free wonder picks and one complimentary card pack.
Pokemon TCG Pocket May Be Placing Too Much Emphasis on Collection
The scarcity of meaningful prizes could be due to how heavily Pokemon TCG Pocket focuses on card accumulation rather than other facets of the card game. In TCG Pocket, the primary functions revolve around unpacking packs, acquiring cards, and striving for a comprehensive collection. While the game does include a battle mechanic, it seems to be overshadowed by collecting, as demonstrated by the less complex battle rules in comparison to the traditional Pokemon TCG. The game also promotes displaying favorite Pokemon TCG cards in binders, which other players can view, suggesting that a complete collection is more valued as a status symbol than a successful battle record in this version of the game.
Due to its heavy focus on amassing collections, Pokemon TCG Pocket seems to have limited its own potential. Since the main goal is to complete collections, there isn’t much incentive left once a player has achieved that. In contrast, Pokemon TCG Live, another mobile version of the game, uses a battle pass system, granting rewards as players engage in more battles. This approach works for it because it is more centered around battles compared to Pokemon TCG Pocket. It’s not that one aspect of the Pokemon Trading Card Game is superior to another; however, deciding a suitable reward for collection completion, especially when that’s all the game provides, is a significant hurdle. Here’s hoping that future updates for Pokemon TCG Pocket will provide players with more meaningful recognition for their accomplishments.
