Why Project Rene Dodging 2025 Would Be a Blessing in Disguise

It’s now more than 10 years since The Sims 4 debuted in stores. Over this period, it has seen 17 expansions and continues to release new content regularly. However, many enthusiasts yearn for a fresh Sims game experience. EA’s Project Rene is designed to fulfill that desire, but players may need to be patient before they can play it.

Initially announced as under development in October 2022, “Project Rene” – spearheaded by Lyndsay Pearson, Vice President of Franchise Creative for “The Sims”, is currently in its early stages and likely won’t be released until a few years from now. Though we haven’t seen much official gameplay footage over the last two years, there’s speculation that “Project Rene” might come out in 2025. However, it may be wise to wait until next year for more updates on this anticipated title.

Project Rene Might Want to Hold Off Until 2026

2025 Is Shaping Up to be a Busy Year for the Life-Sim/Cozy Game Genre

Over the past ten years or so, the life-simulation genre has gained significant popularity, largely due to notable games such as Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and The Sims. This genre has grown so much that at least six eagerly awaited life-sim/cozy games are scheduled for release in 2025.

2025 will see the launch of the first comfortably engaging game titled “Hello Kitty Island Adventure“, which was previously exclusive to Apple Arcade but is now set for release on consoles and PC on January 30th. Following it by approximately two months, we have “Wanderstop“, “Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game“, and “inZOI” all lined up for release. While the development team behind “Wanderstop” boasts an impressive pedigree, and “Tales of the Shire ” enjoys some strong brand recognition, it’s the upcoming “inZOI” that has “Sims” enthusiasts buzzing with anticipation due to its promise of intricate and immersive life-simulation gameplay constructed using Unreal Engine 5.

Additionally, if you’re still craving more comforting life-simulation gameplay, enthusiasts of the genre can anticipate the arrivals of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, which are scheduled for release later in 2025.

2025 Is Already Packed With Long-Awaited Franchise Follow-Ups

In 2025, it’s true that EA’s Project Rene might be well-known compared to most other titles. However, it wouldn’t be the only major AAA game series launch that year. In fact, numerous popular franchises are due for their eagerly anticipated sequels this year. Some fans have been waiting almost a decade or more for these new releases.

This year, we will witness the comeback of the beloved series, Fable, which has been ten years since the release of its last primary installment. In February, Civilization 7 is expected to hit the shelves, nearly nine years after Civilization 6 was released. Similarly, Monster Hunter Wilds is set for launch in the same month, seven years following the release of Monster Hunter: World. Lastly, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been scheduled for 2025, possibly marking a gap of twelve years since Grand Theft Auto 5 was introduced.

It could be more advantageous for Project Rene to steer clear of releasing at the same time as these other games, since EA may want maximum attention for its launch. If Project Rene remains free-to-play, it should aim for a moment when the gaming industry isn’t oversaturated with notable game releases, ensuring that the spotlight is on it when it eventually debuts.
