Summary
- Gen 10 Pokemon games set in Greece may introduce designs inspired by Greek mythology, including new and returning Pokemon.
- Tauros potentially getting a minotaur-inspired evolution in Gen 10 could be excessive given its recent regional forms in Gen 9.
- Despite the thematic fit, giving Tauros a minotaur evolution may feel unfair compared to Miltank and lack excitement.
It seems quite likely that we’ll see the release of Generation 10 of Pokemon next year, possibly due to the criticism over Generation 9’s performance at launch or in honor of the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2026. Previous reports have indicated that 2025 will be dedicated to “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” instead. While there hasn’t been an official announcement about Generation 10 games yet, there have been numerous leaks and rumors circulating for quite some time, starting with the mysterious painting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that appears to depict a European street. With Generation 10 supposedly set in Greece, according to more recent leaks, it might be an ideal opportunity for one Pokemon from earlier generations to undergo a cross-generational evolution.
If the backdrop of the Pokémon Gen 10 games is indeed Greece, it’s likely we’ll see some new Pokémon designs influenced by Greek mythology, and perhaps even a few returning ones. The setting often plays a significant role in shaping unique Pokémon, as seen through cross-gen evolutions, regional forms, and regional fakes. However, when considering Tauros from Gen 1, it might be better not to give it a minotaur-inspired evolution.
Even if It’s Perfect, Gen 10 Can’t Give Tauros Yet Another Form or Evolution
In contrast to Bouffalant, which resembles a buffalo, Tauros is more like a bull in appearance and themes. Given that minotaurs from Greek mythology have the body of a human with a bull’s head and tail, it seems fitting for Tauros to evolve into a form inspired by minotaurs rather than Bouffalant. However, since Tauros already has three regional forms in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, giving it another evolution so soon might be excessive, especially for two consecutive games.
In the competitive matches of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Paldean Tauros metamorphosed into a prominent figure, with the Blaze Breed and Aqua Breed leading the charge in the early VGC scene due to their Intimidate ability, effective type pairings, and powerful moves. To this day, Tauros remains a widely-loved Pokemon from Kanto, making its inclusion in Gen 9’s ranked double battles a logical decision. However, it is worth noting that no other Pokemon in the series had previously received three regional forms, let alone within a single game.
It’s important to mention that the versions of Tauros in the Paldea region come in various types. The Tauros from Kanto are regular, while those in the Combat Breed of Paldea have a Fighting type. For the Blaze Breed, it’s both Fighting and Fire, and for the Aqua Breed, they possess a Fighting and Water type.
Why Tauros Shouldn’t Get a Minotaur Evolution in Gen 10
It seems that providing Tauros with a cross-generation evolution might be too rapid, as there are other factors at play. One of these reasons is that Tauros shares a similar role in the Johto Pokemon games with Miltank, who has never been given regional forms or additional evolutions. If we were to give Tauros new developments in just two games, it might seem unfair compared to Miltank’s lack of advancement. Furthermore, Miltank is quite a beloved character that even reached meme status due to its challenging Gym Leader battle in Generation 2.
Beyond this, given the conventional image and tales surrounding the minotaur, it might seem challenging to classify a Pokemon inspired by it as anything other than a Fighting-type. Since Paldean Tauros is a Fighting-type in every version, this could feel less diverse or thrilling. However, there are alternative methods to design a minotaur cross-generation evolution for Tauros; these ideas are yet to be realized. At present, the idea of setting it in Greece has not been confirmed officially, so fans should view it with some skepticism.
