I don’t remember when I first played a video game, but I’ll never forget watching my dad start up Battlefield 1942 on his work laptop. I was probably six or seven, and the dramatic menu music instantly grabbed my attention. I was hooked from the very beginning.
A few years passed, and after playing more games, I tried Battlefield 2142 at my cousin’s house. This time, I really understood the game and was amazed. That experience made me a dedicated Battlefield fan ever since.
I was really looking forward to Battlefield 6. I’ve been following news and rumors about it ever since it was announced, and I jumped into the beta as soon as it was available. I felt the same way when the full game came out a few weeks ago. However, even though I’m enjoying Battlefield 6, I keep finding myself drawn to a completely different type of game.
Vampire Survivors Was Tailor-Made For My Brain
I jumped on the Vampire Survivors bandwagon a bit late – everyone was talking about it after it came out in February 2022, but I didn’t actually get around to playing it until December. Honestly, the moment I started, I was completely hooked! I knew I’d be neglecting everything else in my life for a while, and I was okay with that.
I’d played a few roguelike games before December 2022, but Vampire Survivors really grabbed my attention—even more than popular titles like Hades. What made it stand out was how consistently you felt like you were getting stronger. You earn gems by defeating enemies, and those gems quickly lead to leveling up. Each level unlocks new and different weapons and upgrades, making every playthrough unique.
I quickly became completely hooked on Vampire Survivors, and it was all thanks to its addictive gameplay. I found myself playing constantly – during lunch breaks, late into the night after work, and even in bed until 2 AM. Any free moment I had, there was almost no chance I wasn’t playing.
I was totally hooked on Vampire Survivors because of how it always felt like I was getting stronger. It really hit the spot for me at the time! Okay, it messed with my schedule a bit, but honestly, it was a strangely comforting experience – something very few games have ever given me.
A Full Moon Can’t Last Forever
Okay, so I was totally hooked on Vampire Survivors for a while there, but honestly, I’m not quite as obsessed these days. I still fire it up now and then – usually when I’m traveling or a cool new update with characters from another game comes out – but I rarely get into those marathon sessions where I play for hours on end anymore.
I’ve been following the growing popularity of games similar to Vampire Survivors recently. These games generally take the addictive core gameplay of Vampire Survivors – which I particularly enjoyed – and build upon it with their own new ideas and features.
There have been several enjoyable games inspired by Vampire Survivors, such as Brotato and Halls of Torment, but none have captivated me quite like the original – until I played this one.
2025 Is Officially The Year of Vampire Survivors-Likes
Lately, we’ve seen a huge surge in games similar to the popular Vampire Survivors. One of the first that really stood out to me was Megabonk by Vedinad. It’s like a 3D version of Vampire Survivors with elements of Risk of Rain 2, and it quickly became a hit when it launched in September – I was immediately hooked!
I Fell for Megabonk, Hook, Line, and Sinker
I instantly fell in love with Megabonk! It gave me that same amazing feeling I had when I first played Vampire Survivors – that constant sense of getting stronger and unlocking new stuff. It’s not just about what’s happening in a run, but the bigger picture too. There are so many characters, weapons, and items to unlock that it really keeps you coming back for more. That familiar ‘just one more run’ feeling hit me hard, and it felt good.
I was completely absorbed in the game Megabonk for about a week, but that changed suddenly in October. I discovered a new favorite game that quickly took over all my time and attention.
The single-player game Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor came out a few months ago, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet.
Now, Ball X Pit Really Is Tailor-Made For Me
I received Ball X Pit just two days before my birthday, and it felt like a perfect gift! Created by Kenny Sun, the game brilliantly combines the leveling-up system from Vampire Survivors with the classic Breakout gameplay, making it incredibly fun and hard to stop playing.
What I especially love about Ball X Pit is its base-building aspect. While playing, you discover blueprints, which you can then use back at your base to build structures. These structures unlock new characters and give you lasting improvements.
Before Megabonk came out, I was completely absorbed in roguelike base-building games. I’ve been really impressed with The King Is Watching, Drop Duchy, and 9 Kings – all contenders for my top 10 games of the year. Ball X Pit combines everything I love about recent indie games into a polished, packed experience that I can’t put down.
I really want to play the new Battlefield, Battlefield 6: RedSec, but I’m too focused on perfecting my Frozen Flame and Lightning Rod strategy right now.
