Why Wednesday Season 2 Should Find Eugene a New Love – Outside His Friend Group!

Summary

  • Eugene’s beekeeping club with Wednesday sets the stage for their sweet friendship on Outreach Day.
  • Eugene showcases bravery by saving Wednesday from Marilyn, hinting at his potential as a hero.
  • Despite unrequited feelings for Enid, Eugene’s genuine and lovable character deserves a romantic storyline.

On Outreach Day in Wednesday, it’s Eugene Ottinger, the head honcho of Nevermore Hummers, who makes his formal appearance. However, prior to this grand introduction, he takes it upon himself to acquaint Wednesday Addams with himself as the overseer and lone participant of Nevermore’s Beekeeping Club. His intention? To ignite her curiosity about the timeless craft of beekeeping. Charming, endearing, and full of warmth, Eugene’s gentle nature is a stark contrast to Wednesday’s demeanor, making their budding friendship all the more endearing. From the get-go, Wednesday finds herself captivated by Eugene’s sincerity and straightforwardness, and thus begins an enchanting rapport between the two.

On Outreach Day in the Pilgrim World, Wednesday looks to Eugene for safety against bullies, but the roles unexpectedly reverse as he is the one who saves her. In the final episode of Wednesday, when Thornhill aims to shoot Wednesday, it’s Eugene who bravely releases a swarm of bees at her, paying back his debt of gratitude. With psychic powers over bees and an unconventional hero status, Eugene is primed to take charge – offering a distinct narrative from the main storyline. A romantic interest outside his social circle could provide a sweet addition to the plot, serving as a much-needed boost for his character development.

Eugene’s Club Has An Opening

In the first season of “Wednesday”, Chapter II titled “Woe is the Loneliest Number”, Principal Weems endeavors to encourage Wednesday to participate in activities beyond her self-assigned duties as Nevermore Academy’s unofficial detective and mystery solver. He compiles a list of clubs that have vacancies and asks Wednesday to choose one by the end of the day. Wednesday decides to explore Bianca Barclay’s club first, then Xavier Thorpe’s, and finally Eugene’s.

On Wednesday, and Eugene mutually exchange greetings and share a handshake. When Eugene inquires if she’s open to an exhilarating experience given the nature of the club, a spark lights up her eyes, hinting at her fascination with its thrill and peril. Instantly captivated, Wednesday eagerly agrees, and soon enough, she dons a beekeeping suit, prepared for the challenges that come with managing the hive.

Eugene Runs The Show Solo

Eugene, a charming character, captivates hearts when he explains to Wednesday that in the bee world, it’s the females who hold dominance and there’s no patriarchy in the hive. He’s genuine, smart, and just too endearing to be ignored. Though his character is still finding its way within the show, his friendship with Wednesday seems to give his life a new direction. He finds his first real friend in Wednesday, using her acquaintance to attempt courting her lively and cheerful roommate, Enid Sinclair.

In Chapter III of Outreach Day titled “Friends or Woe,” a friendless Eugene forms an alliance with Wednesday for the first time. To do this, Wednesday exchanges her volunteer duties with Enid and heads to Pilgrim World where Eugene is stationed. Simultaneously, Enid consents to visit the antique store, Uriah’s Heap, solely because Ajax Petropolus happens to be working there.

On a Wednesday, Eugene is safeguarded from tormentors by his friend Wednesday, who upholds their unwritten law – Hummers stand united. Subsequently, she obtains his retainer to clandestinely infiltrate the assembly hall to scrutinize Joseph Crackstone. This instance hints at Eugene’s affection for Enid, as it was revealed when he returned his retainer and mentioned nothing about its absence.

“What, why? Your teeth are really good. Not as straight or white as Enid’s but still —”

As a movie enthusiast, it’s a bit of a letdown to see Eugene finding feelings for Enid when they seem destined to be together. His growing affection for her feels like an unnecessary plot twist. They simply don’t seem compatible, and moreover, he deserves someone who reciprocates his interest just as ardently.

Eugene Deserves Someone Who Likes Him Back

Eugene feels most lively around Enid when she visits his workshop. He strives to show off his skills in beekeeping to win her favor, but she seems to view him merely as Wednesday’s companion. He makes an effort to catch her attention, hoping that his determination will bear fruit. As a gesture, he even gifts Wednesday a jar of honey for Enid, asking Wednesday to speak well of him and perhaps arrange a date for the Rave’N. However, Wednesday firmly cautions their friendship about the differences between them, suggesting they don’t fit into typical teenage stereotypes. Despite this advice, Eugene persists in trying to communicate with Enid, but his efforts are met with indifference, leaving him dejected.

Gene openly displays his affection and truly earns love. His connection with Wednesday is reminiscent of siblings, while Enid is more like an acquired friend. However, it’s important to note that Gene has become a member of the group who rescued Nevermore from destruction, which is worthy of recognition and gratitude. Perhaps, as Nevermore continues to grow, he might find a romantic interest who appreciates him, his accomplishments, and his remarkable beekeeping endeavors.

On the horizon of Wednesday Season 2 lies a chance to infuse Eugene’s storyline with an enchanting romantic journey, something that has been lacking in Nevermore thus far. Despite the show’s abundance of romantic subplots, poor Eugene has yet to be included. What are your thoughts on this potential development?

The highly anticipated second season of Wednesday debuts on Netflix in 2025.
