Wildgate Developer Moonshot Confirms Layoffs

Dreamhaven, the company that owns video game developer Moonshoot (creator of Wildgate), has announced that Moonshoot is reducing its workforce. This makes Moonshoot the newest studio to confirm layoffs in the gaming industry.

The game experienced difficulties after its release in July 2025, and as a result, an unspecified number of employees have been laid off.

Dreamhaven Is Hopeful They Will Find a Way to Support Moonshot in the Long Term

Dreamhaven announced to Game Developer that while Wildgate saw an increase in players after its launch on the Epic Games Store in early 2026, they had to make a tough choice to keep the game updated and ensure the studio’s future.

Even though more people are playing and enjoying the game, we couldn’t maintain our current development team size. We’ve made the tough choice to reduce the team to ensure we can keep updating the game and support the studio’s long-term health. We’re still working hard on the next update for Wildgate, which will include several improvements players have asked for, like a new progression system. We expect to release this update later this quarter.

Dreamhaven faced layoffs in September 2025, primarily impacting its publishing team. These cuts came after reports the previous month showed the game had only sold $130,000 worth of units, and it is now available to play for free on the Epic Games Store.

Layoffs are happening across the gaming industry, and Ubisoft is the latest company to announce major changes, including restructuring. You can find more details about Ubisoft’s announcement here.
