This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again Episode 9.
Summary
- Fisk’s strength in Daredevil: Born Again isn’t new; he showcased superhuman abilities in Netflix’s Daredevil.
- Marvel fans speculate that Fisk may have obtained the Super Soldier Serum.
- Fisk’s boosted strength in the MCU suggests he can rival heroes like Spider-Man.
In its initial season, Daredevil: Born Again wrapped up with a potent finale, offering viewers the long-anticipated alliance between Frank Castle (The Punisher) and Daredevil. Throughout the storyline, The Punisher aimed to eliminate anyone resembling “Clown” from his path, while Matt opted for a less aggressive strategy. Yet, it was intriguing to observe these contrasting viewpoints merge into a united front against the Kingpin’s troops.
In the final episode of “Daredevil: Born Again,” it’s hard to pick just one standout shocking moment because there were so many to choose from. However, the scene where Kingpin killed Gallo left viewers absolutely stunned. While we’ve seen Fisk display extreme brutality towards his foes in the past, the way he crushed Gallo’s skull with his bare hands was something nobody could have predicted. The entire audience was left reeling by Fisk’s seemingly superhuman strength, which was undeniably impressive, but it also stirred up discussions among fans. To clarify, no one is complaining about Kingpin being that strong, but some fans are curious if Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of the character has always had such power, or if the MCU amplified his abilities over time.
Yes, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin Was Incredibly Strong In Daredevil
The Man Has Always Been A Monster
It’s not hard to see why fans might be taken aback by Fisk’s extraordinary strength in “Daredevil: Born Again,” given that crushing a human skull with bare hands is no ordinary task. However, it’s important to remember that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin has consistently shown impressive strength, even before entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In the Netflix series Daredevil, Kingpin, or Fisk, demonstrated an impressive display of strength, overpowering not just one but two formidable opponents: Daredevil and Bullseye. He effortlessly shoved Daredevil through walls, and even attempted to hit Bullseye, only to end up creating a hole in the wall instead. Fisk exhibited an astounding ability by lifting Bullseye off the ground and sending him flying as if it were insignificant. Matt Murdock, being a skilled fighter, held his own against Fisk, who remained undeterred even after receiving numerous punches. However, it was not until Fisk caught sight of Vanessa’s face that he chose to cease the fighting.
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at the sheer power exuded by Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin in Netflix’s Daredevil. In Season 2, he showed his might against Frank Castle, throwing punches that would make a monster envious. Even after witnessing the Punisher decimate several inmates single-handedly, Kingpin audaciously asked the guards to release Frank from his restraints, confident in his ability to hold his own if necessary.
And let’s not forget about Season 1, where he demonstrated his strength in a chilling scene where he mercilessly crushed a man’s head with a car door multiple times. It doesn’t take a strength expert to realize that every move Kingpin made on the show required an immense amount of power.
The MCU Version Of Wilson Fisk Feels Like A Superhuman
No Normal Human Can Survive After Being Shot In The Face
The Kingpin, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio in Daredevil, exhibited a powerlifter-like strength. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) version of the character displayed the might of a superhuman. Consequently, it’s not unreasonable for fans to perceive the MCU’s Wilson Fisk as having inconsistent strength compared to his Netflix counterpart.
Supporters of Marvel claim that the character has significantly enhanced his strength since joining the MCU. For example, in the series ‘Hawkeye’, Fisk was observed ripping open a car door with bare hands and sending Kate Bishop tumbling with a single punch. Despite being hit repeatedly by her arrows, Fisk remained unfazed. Furthermore, he also endured an explosion caused by Kate’s arrows that occurred very close to him.
“You….never stopped being Kingpin.” – Commissioner Gallo to Wilson Fisk.
A striking demonstration of Fisk’s extraordinary resilience was evident when he not only survived being shot point-blank in the face, but miraculously saved his eye – something many believe would have been beyond the capabilities of Netflix’s Fisk. Moreover, he has shown a surge in his strength by crushing Phil Gallo’s skull with bare hands, leaving viewers in awe. It is indeed the same Wilson Fisk we knew from Netflix’s Daredevil. The fanbase speculates that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is gradually building up Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin to be a formidable adversary even for characters like Spider-Man, challenging the status quo of his character’s capabilities.
In the same storyline, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin) coexists with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, a character who has battled against powerful beings like Thanos. Consequently, it can be reasoned that Fisk must possess an extraordinary physical prowess to endure as a villain in a realm inhabited by superhumans such as the Avengers. Nevertheless, the query lingers: What might Marvel employ to account for this unexpected surge in Kingpin’s strength? Some Marvel enthusiasts speculate that the Super Soldier Serum could serve as an explanation.
Fisk Might Have Obtained The Black Market Super Soldier Serum
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), multiple scientists have endeavored to duplicate the Super Soldier Serum, with some achieving success, such as Doctor Wilfred Nagel. His variant of the serum had a substantial impact in the MCU, particularly in the narrative of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It’s been estimated that there were approximately twenty bottles of the serum, and it’s speculated among Marvel fans that Wilson Fisk might have acquired one of these vials.
It seems plausible that Fisk, given his extensive ties within the criminal underworld, could easily acquire the Serum through the Power Broker, although this has yet to be verified in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This theory aligns with the potential development of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin character.
For an extended period, Wilson Fisk seemed to vanish from the scene, leading many fans to speculate that he might have acquired the Serum during the timeline between the stories depicted in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Hawkeye. Notably, Nagel’s version of this serum was designed to enhance strength without causing any noticeable physical transformations in the user. However, it did produce certain psychological effects, as demonstrated with John Walker, who experienced an amplification of his anger issues due to the serum. Yet, such a side effect would not have posed a challenge for Fisk since he has always embraced his anger rather than feeling ashamed of it throughout his character development.
