As a die-hard anime enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming romantic comedy “Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms” is something truly intriguing. Having followed the evolution of the genre since the golden days of Ranma ½ and Fushigi Yuugi, this new series seems like a refreshing blend of modern romance tropes with a dash of the unexpected.
Fans of romantic comedies can look forward to the upcoming anime “Medaka Kuroiwa Resists My Advances,” premiering on January 6, 2025. It’s a series that blends elements from popular shows like “Rent-A-Girlfriend,” “Quintessential Quintuplets,” and “Kaguya-sama,” offering an exciting mix for fans of the genre. However, with other highly anticipated titles such as “Solo Leveling” stealing the spotlight, this lesser-known series might slip under the radar for some viewers.
The show has been well-received in Japan and could potentially become a beloved romantic comedy among the audience. If you’re fond of similar stories, I recommend checking out “I’m Marrying a Girl I Hate from My Class” and the second season of “The 100 Girls Who Really, Really Love You“. Remarkably, Japanese fans got to watch the premiere ahead of its scheduled release in January at an advance screening hosted by United Cinemas Toyosu in Tokyo on December 7. As reported by ANN.
The Guy That Doesn’t Care About Queen Bee
At her high school, Mona Kawai is well-liked by many, basking in the admiration she receives. Most people find themselves drawn to her appealing qualities, but there’s one boy who remains unaffected. Determined to capture his attention, Mona focuses all her energy on trying to win him over.
The upcoming fight will be challenging since Medaka Kuroiwa, who’s preparing to become a monk, is exceptionally resistant to worldly attractions. Interestingly, her attempts to entice him only lead her to develop feelings for him instead.
Meet the Main Characters
In this story, Medaka Kuroiwa, a sophomore high school student, serves as the main character. He’s undergoing training to become a monk at his temple family home. However, a rule has been explicitly set for him: abstain from romantic involvements. Yet, complications arise when Mona and other girls express interest in him.
From an observational standpoint, Mona Kawai assumes a significant role in the narrative, as it unfolds primarily through her point of view. In her sophomore year of high school, she has relocated from Osaka to Tokyo, lending a unique charm to her character. Notably, when upset, she often speaks in the Kansai dialect. Being the reigning queen bee at school brings her great joy; however, her happiness is tempered by Medaka’s apparent disregard for her presence.
Apart from Mona, other females such as Tsubomi and Tomo are attempting to build relationships with Medaka as well. For those interested, Kodansha USA offers the original manga in English translations. Written by Ran Kuze, the story has been ongoing since 2021, with a total of 17 volumes released thus far.
