Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2 Episode 1 Review

Be warned! This contains spoilers for Episode 1 of Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2, titled “Barrier Day,” which is currently available on Crunchyroll.

Among current fantasy anime, Wistoria: Wand and Sword stands out due to its beautiful animation, which enhances both action-packed battles and more intimate, emotional scenes featuring the character Will Serfort. As the spring 2026 season starts, it’s already apparent that Season 2 of Wistoria: Wand and Sword will continue to deliver visuals that are as good as, or even better than, the first season.

Wow, the new season of Wistoria really hits hard right from the start! “Barrier Day,” the first episode, is genuinely tough to watch for Will Serfort – it’s a real low point for him. But honestly, seeing him struggle just makes you root for him even more, because you get the sense he’s going to bounce back in a big way. The episode definitely hints at a chance for Will to redeem himself, though it’s clear things are about to get much, much harder with a brand new, even bigger threat looming.

Will Serfort’s Tower Climb Takes a Painful Pause

Non-Magic Users Are Still Discriminated Against

Wow, the second season of Wistoria: Wand and Sword really hit the ground running! I was a little shocked, honestly, to see how quickly they dismissed all the effort Will Serfort put in last season. He definitely seemed to be making progress at Rigarden Magical Academy after the All-Student Praxis, but it’s frustrating to see Professor Edward still holding him back just because he doesn’t have magical abilities. It feels really unfair!

Edward holds a deep-seated resentment towards Will Serfort, and it doesn’t seem like he’ll ever let it go. Will excelled in all his graduation exams, except for the one given by Professor Edward. Edward asked a deceptively simple question – “What is the meaning of magic?” – a question only a magic user could truly answer. Because Will doesn’t have magical ability, he failed the test and was blocked from achieving his goal.

Predictably, Will’s friends were concerned by his setback, with Workner particularly disturbed by the pointed question Edward had asked. This caused Will to become despondent, leading him to believe that no matter how hard he tried, he would never be able to win Elfie over.

Colette’s Hatred for the Magia Vander Runs Deep

Colette Holds On to Will Serfort

From the start of Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2, Colette is a character you can’t help but notice. She seems to be concealing a hidden, potentially troubling side that only Rosty has picked up on. Despite her sweet appearance and charming expressions, she creates a sense of unease, hinting that something significant is brewing beneath the surface. One thing is clear: Colette will play a very important part in Will’s story.

Everyone else praises the Magia Vander, but Colette can’t stand them, particularly Elfaria, who Will Serfort loves. She feels Elfaria doesn’t deserve Will’s devotion and that he’s wasting his energy on someone who does nothing but relax in the tower. Rosty shared Colette’s feelings, understanding her frustration, though her views are still unpopular.

I hate the Magia Vander. -Colette

Just as Colette was about to kiss Will Serfort while he slept, Rosty interrupted them again, continuing their ongoing rivalry. They’re both clearly vying for Will’s affection, even though they know he loves Elfie. While their playful competition is often cute, their feelings for Will are starting to seem less like friendly competition and more like a strong obsession. It’s possible this rivalry could completely change their relationship with each other.

Assassin and Headless Interrupts Terminalia

Will Serfort’s Enemies Finally Show Up

The artificial sky was bursting with fireworks celebrating Terminalia when the villains from Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2 emerged, unleashing monstrous creatures with glowing halos. What should have been a peaceful night to strengthen the city’s defenses has become a dangerous event, as Assassin and Headless have interrupted the festivities. These two powerful foes proved their strength last season, and it looks like they’re causing trouble again.

With the Magia Vander weakened from reinforcing the Great Barrier, tonight presents a prime opportunity for villains to put their plans into action. If the Magia Vander hadn’t intervened, the safety of the world would depend on the students of Regarden Magical Academy, particularly Will Serfort. This could be Will’s chance to prove himself, and Professor Edward might finally have to acknowledge his abilities.

The first episode of Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2 immediately throws viewers into a significant conflict that starts unexpectedly. It creates a sense that this is just the first sign of much bigger problems to come. Thankfully, the animation remains excellent, with smooth, well-done visuals and action sequences.
