The fourth season of “Guilty Gear Strive” turned out to be the most unexpected for Arc System Works, showcasing a blend of familiar faces and newcomers. Notably, the EVO 2024 trailer also unveiled that Lucy, hailing from “Cyberpunk Edgerunners,” would be the first guest character in “Guilty Gear.” Despite her release being slated for Summer 2025, her initial announcement generated a variety of responses among fans. Some are eager to explore how she’ll perform, while others express disappointment as they had been hoping for other highly desired characters to take her spot.
In a recent chat with Dexerto, Guilty Gear Strive’s producer Ken Miyauchi shared insights about why Arc System Works chose Lucy as their first guest character and how they came to this decision. Miyauchi reveals that the team has been eager to incorporate a guest character since the second season of Guilty Gear Strive, and CD Projekt RED was the initial studio approached. CDPR showed immediate interest in collaborating on this project.
Guilty Gear Strive Nearly Added a Witcher Character Instead
Strive’s principal artist, Hidehiko Sakamura, was deeply fond of The Witcher, initially intending to include Ciri in the game roster. However, as conversations progressed, the direction changed, and the emphasis shifted towards the widely acclaimed Netflix series, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Despite Lucy not being as combative as other characters from that show, Miyauchi confirmed the team is enjoying the process of animating her and expressed openness to future collaborations.
Despite the ongoing anticipation for Unika and Lucy, enthusiasts can seize the opportunity to experience Venom’s iteration in Guilty Gear Strive. This iconic figure has been integrated into the primary cast through the Season 4 pass, sharing the limelight with Dizzy, who made her appearance as early as 2024. Venom maintains a significant portion of his original move set, centered around billiards and armed with a cue-like weapon. However, in Strive, he has been paired with Robo-Ky, and can incorporate this new ally into combat.
