As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the Slayer in Witchfire is truly a delight for those who enjoy getting personal with their enemies. With a high Witchery stat similar to the Shadow, you can expect to cast spells like never before! And let’s not forget about the impressive Endurance level – you’ll be effective at any combat range.


In Witchfire, you’ll find six distinct classes to play, each one starting off with unique loadouts and stat distributions. However, selecting the optimal class essentially boils down to picking the most advantageous initial weapons, spells, and stats. It’s important to note that nothing in Witchfire is confined to a specific class, so players can eventually access all content by simply exploring the Workshop within the game.

The starting gear, however, does mean that players can make their early game either overly difficult or relatively easy. Here are the best starting classes in Witchfire, and what they offer.

The Penitent isn’t suitable for newcomers, as it’s specifically structured to increase the difficulty of the early stages of Witchfire. This mode begins at level 1 and provides only one weapon, with no magical items to aid you.

In the game “Witchfire”, the Hunger hand cannon is an exceptional weapon that pays off with precise and critical shots. Interestingly, it’s the very first weapon players can acquire from the Workshop. This might not be a compelling reason to pick the Penitent as your starting class, unless you’re after a head start in Metanoia for extra experience points or enjoy the flexibility of distributing stats from scratch with no prior limitations.

In Witchfire, similar to The Penitent, players can mold their own version of The Saint as they wish. Unlike the former, the Saint begins with four items of equipment, one for each gear slot. His main weapon is the Ricochet, which tears through tagged enemies while conserving ammo. Notably, he’s the sole class that starts equipped with a demonic weapon in Witchfire.

Managing the excessive firepower is the task of the Ice Orb and the Tome of Serpents. The Ice Orb generates an icy shield to protect the Saint from harm and freeze any adversaries that venture within the shield. The Tome of Serpents retaliates against enemies who successfully attack by afflicting them with a curse called Decay, which causes progressive damage over time.

Consequently, the Saint exhibits a blend of offensive and defensive prowess. Although the class may lack in statistics, it has a strong reliance on Luck, ensuring more favorable item finds.

4 Shadow

As a diehard fan of Witchfire, I initially thought The Shadow’s class was all about sneaking around. But the name and description can be misleading. In truth, stealth isn’t a mechanic within the game. Instead, enemies marked by the Witch (the ones with glowing orbs) will always pursue you relentlessly. Contrary to first impressions, The Shadow comes equipped with a powerful weapon and a spell that makes him exceptionally effective at long-range combat in Witchfire.

The Eye of Sight Bolt-Action Rifle delivers significant damage to fully healthy opponents, and this effect intensifies when aiming for headshots. Additionally, the gun can be enhanced to unleash a shockwave, damaging and inflicting Decay on all surrounding foes. Moreover, The Shadow comes equipped with a Shockwave spell endowed with similar crowd-control properties, maintaining a safe distance between you and the enemies at all times.

Having the maximum Witchery skill compared to other classes allows players to frequently cast their spells, but the lower stats and reliance on long-range combat can make the Shadow character challenging to master, particularly for newcomers.

3 Hunter

The Hunter initially equips items that work harmoniously, providing substantial firepower for every confrontation with enemies. The Ricochet weapon can harm up to three opponents concurrently, provided they are marked. However, striking critical shots on enemies with full health activates the Painted Tooth relic, causing them to catch fire and sustain burn damage. If players maintain all enemies within their visual range, they can swiftly clear an entire zone. Elite or heavily armored opponents, though, are exceptions because they require multiple bullets before being defeated.

In the game of Witchfire, it’s important to note that the Hunter begins with the least amount of Vitality. This means a single enemy attack could be lethal. To survive, players should make use of their high Endurance for evasion and dodging attacks. On the bright side, the Hunter has a high Metanoia, which assists in gathering extra witchfire crystals to speed up leveling up within Witchfire.

In the game Witchfire, The Butcher stands out as an exceptional choice for a starting class. His initial stats grant players enhanced health recovery and boast larger health and stamina pools. Beginning at level 6 also means players are nearly ready to unlock additional health elixirs in Witchfire, enhancing their survivability even more.

From my perspective, the one potential drawback I encountered early on was the incredibly low Witchery skill, which made it challenging to depend on spells during the initial stages of play for about a dozen hours or so. However, the good news is that The Butcher comes equipped with an outstanding starting weapon, helping to offset this trade-off.

The Midas is a self-heating medium-range semi-automatic rifle, which intensifies bullet impact and charring adversaries. Effortlessly cutting through enemy formations, this weapon’s enhanced Vitality and Endurance make it easier for players to evade danger. In critical health situations, the Butcher can deploy the Bittersweet Nightshade artifact, pushing away surrounding enemies with a potent shockwave.
