Wizard101 Dev Reveals Shocking Truth About Xbox Game Pass!

Summary

  • A Wizard101 dev explained why the game likely won’t be on Xbox Game Pass.
  • While free-to-play titles like Valorant are on Game Pass, a free version of Wizard101 is coming, making it less necessary.

A developer from Wizard101 mentioned that having Xbox Game Pass can be both beneficial and challenging, explaining why it’s uncertain if their game will join the subscription service. This comment follows buzz among Wizard101 enthusiasts about the possibility of this MMORPG becoming available on Xbox Game Pass.

Over the last two decades, the game Wizard101 has given players the chance to use magic spells within its turn-based combat and deck-building mechanics. During this period, KingIsle Entertainment, responsible for this online game, made numerous substantial improvements. These updates ranged from introducing new story arcs to enhancing the game’s efficiency through technical adjustments since it debuted on PC in 2008.

In August 2024, the console version of Wizard101 was officially announced for current and previous generations of PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles, together with crossplay compatibility across all console editions. More recently, KingIsle has suggested that the fantasy RPG might not be part of Xbox Game Pass at least temporarily.

According to Reddit user Tiespecialo and a representative from KingIsle named Greg, the upcoming console release of Wizard101 doesn’t necessarily mean that the game will appear on Xbox Game Pass. In response to a fan’s question, the KingIsle rep indicated that it is “unlikely” that Wizard101 would be added to Xbox Game Pass because being on such a service can both increase exposure and potentially harm profits significantly. Greg explained that although Xbox Game Pass brings many benefits, it also carries the risk of significantly reducing sales since players might opt for the free version instead of purchasing the paid membership-based version. Furthermore, he noted that a free-to-play version of Wizard101 is planned to launch alongside KingIsle’s own subscription model, making it even less important for the game to be included in Xbox Game Pass.

Wizard101 to Skip Xbox Game Pass, Unlike Certain Other Free-to-Play Online Titles

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but wonder if adding Wizard101 to Xbox Game Pass might not seem crucial due to its free-to-play status. However, there are some highly popular free games that have found a spot on the subscription service regardless. Titles like Valorant and Apex Legends, for instance, which have provided extra perks such as bonus skins and XP boosts for players using Xbox Game Pass in the past.

As of now, there’s no confirmed console launch date for Wizard101, but it seems unlikely that it will appear on Xbox’s subscription platform when it does. However, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can expect some significant new additions to their library in 2025, like Doom: The Dark Ages, FBC: Firebreak, and others.
