As a long-time fan of the X-Men universe, I’ve seen my fair share of epic battles and heart-wrenching moments. Among these, Wolverine’s kills stand out as some of the most memorable, especially considering his unique adamantium claws.
Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine stands as an enduring symbol that extends beyond the realm of Marvel films, setting a standard for acting and career accomplishments in comic book adaptations that may never be matched again. Over the course of multiple Marvel movies, Jackman’s Wolverine has dispatched more than 100 characters on-screen.
Looking forward to Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, and hopefully continuing until he’s 90, let’s reminisce about some of Wolverine’s most memorable kills – from poignant to downright brutal, or simply badass.
9 Wolverine’s Samurai Fight With Shingen Yashida
The Wolverine vs. the Samurai Only Ends One Way
- Featured in: The Wolverine (2013)
In the name of his family’s business, Shingen Yashida resorted to extreme measures such as attempting to kill his own daughter and using genetically engineered parasites to weaken Wolverine. Dressed in his samurai armor, Yashida confronted a weakened Wolverine, but the parasite had already been removed, resulting in a fierce battle between samurai sword and adamantium claws.
The intense battle between Wolverine and Shingen highlights Wolverine’s remarkable healing ability, with Shingen repeatedly stabbing him, only for Wolverine to casually remove the blades. However, when Shingen persists in fighting, Wolverine is left with no choice but to end his life by plunging his claws into Shingen’s neck, declaring himself as the unyielding Wolverine.
8 Stabbing Reavers While Under Attack From Professor X
Charles Xavier’s Seizure Won’t Stop Logan From Stabbing Hostiles
- Featured in: Logan (2017)
During a seizure experienced by Charles Xavier, an icy freeze enveloped the surrounding area, trapping anyone within the potent psychic shockwave in a frozen state of time. Struggling for air due to their inability to breathe, they remained static. Displaying remarkable strength as the foremost X-Man, thanks to his healing factor, Logan battled through this psychic wave in an attempt to control Professor X.
As Logan makes his way towards Professor X’s room, he deals with the Reavers who have invaded it, carefully moving to attack each one with swift and precise strikes, either to their faces or hearts. His actions are brutal yet deliberate as he aims to reach Charles as quickly as possible.
7 Shooting Dr. Zander Rice in the Throat
A Tired Logan Isn’t Afraid to Shut the Bad Guys Up With a Gun
- Featured in: Logan (2017)
Overpowered by Dr. Zander Rice and his Reavers, the exhausted Logan slumps in despair, gasping for his final breaths. As the effects of his green serum fade, he’s forced to adopt a more cowboy-like tactic, trading impaling with adamantium claws for a gun, using it to shoot Dr. Zander Rice instead.
The striking aspect of this murder lies in the fact that the perpetrator kills Zander while delivering an evil discourse, and he’s so weary of excelling at his lethal skills that he opts for a firearm over his usual claws. It’s intriguing to witness Logan’s proficiency with guns, given his background as a Mutant who has fought numerous battles for America.
6 Decapitating Sabretooth
Wolverine Cuts Off Sabretooth’s Head, Something He Can’t Grow Back
- Featured in: Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
In several Marvel films, Wolverine and Sabretooth are portrayed as siblings who harbor a deep enmity towards each other, to the point that they wish death upon the other. A long-standing vow by Wolverine is to decapitate Sabretooth, an oath he fulfills in the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine“, using a swift strike from his adamantium claws.
As a gamer, I can’t help but feel the burning rage towards Sabretooth that’s always simmering within me. So, when the moment came for his demise, it was more of a quick, decisive action than an epic battle. In the heat of the moment, I delivered a swift slash to his throat, ending him once and for all.
5 Animalistic Stabbings of The Reavers in the Woods
Logan Becomes the Wolverine Again, Featuring Unbound Youthful Rage
- Featured in: Logan (2017)
As X-23’s Laura and other mutant offspring flee into the forest to evade Dr. Zander Rice’s Reavers, these agents are in pursuit, aiming to suppress and eliminate the tormented test subjects they had originally created. Realizing the potential of these innocent kids as the future of Mutants, a gravely wounded Logan administers a green serum that boosts his healing abilities, speed, and uncontrollable rage.
In a primal transformation, Logan unleashes his ferocious instincts, transforming into Wolverine once more. He charges through the forests of North Dakota, leaving a trail of destruction as he eliminates anyone who dares to cross his path. Fueled by an insatiable rage, Logan employs his indestructible claws to attack every Reaver with brutal ferocity and mighty roars echoing in the wilderness.
4 Tricked a Yakuza Into Jumping Into a Sign on the Bullet Train
The Fastball Special, Featuring a Wolverine and a Train
- Featured in: The Wolverine (2013)
During his time in Japan, Wolverine eliminates numerous dangerous Yakuza members, but the action on the bullet train stands out as particularly noteworthy. On this high-speed train traveling at 200 miles per hour, Wolverine leaps towards his target. With unbreakable adamantium claws, a single lunge into someone’s chest is enough to cause catastrophic internal damage. However, there’s also a more amusing method of dispatching his foe in this instance.
On the Bullet Train, one casualty features a Wolverine and a Yakuza precariously balanced on the train’s upper part, their blades embedded in the ceiling to keep them stationary. To avoid crashing into overhead train signs, they must leap over them. However, Wolverine deceives the Yakuza into leaping straight into one of these signs instead, which at 200 MPH can quickly turn someone into a pulp.
3 Cutting Weapon XI’s Head Off With Burning Adamantium Claws
Flaming Hot Claws Are the Perfect Decapitation Tool For Deadpools
- Featured in: X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Although most people would concur that the portrayal of Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was a disgrace, it’s challenging to argue against the idea that presenting Weapon XI as a separate experiment from the Merc With a Mouth allows for an entertaining fight scene. Weapon XI possesses powers similar to multiple mutants, making him a formidable foe for many adversaries, but not Wolverine.
Wolverine”, Wolverine’s indestructible adamantium claws were set ablaze following a blast from Weapon XI’s visor. Using this heated metal and its unyielding structure, Wolverine severed Weapon XI’s head. This gruesome act underscores the lethal potential of adamantium; however, there’s some uncertainty about whether it truly constitutes a kill since the post-credits scene hinted that Weapon XI might still be alive.
2 Injecting Lady Deathstrike With Liquid Adamantium
Killing an Adamantium-Filled Foe With More Adamantium
- Featured in: X2: X-Men United (2003)
In essence, Lady Deathstrike represents a formidable adversary for Wolverine, as she’s one of Stryker’s creations involving adamantium, demonstrating both Stryker’s lethality and the indestructible nature of this metal. The confrontation between Lady Deathstrike and Wolverine is intense, with their mutual use of adamantium leading to persistent pain due to Wolverine’s unyielding healing factor. Fortunately for Wolverine, he proves rather cunning during the fight.
Instead of injecting Lady Deathstrike with liquid adamantium, causing her internal organs to overheat and making her suffocate in molten metal, Wolverine effectively delivers a lethal dose of this metal alloy. Swiftly wrapping up the encounter, Wolverine dispatches this formidable adversary before she could pose an even more dangerous menace, and it’s undeniably one of the X-Men’s most ruthless fatalities.
1 Stabbing Jean Grey to Save the World from the Phoenix
Wolverine Kills the Woman He Loves to Save the World
- Featured in: X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Among the many women whom Wolverine (Logan) had affection for over centuries, Jean Grey was one of them. However, like those before her, their relationship ended in sorrow. Jean Grey was possessed by the Phoenix, a malevolent force that threatened to destroy her, those dear to her, and ultimately the world. This continued until Wolverine was compelled to make the difficult decision and end Jean’s life.
Amongst Logan’s most tragic actions is the fatal strike against Jean Grey, a woman he deeply cared for, but was compelled to eliminate to save the world. Wolverine pierces Jean with his adamantium claws, making him the sole individual capable of resisting her potent power. If not for Logan’s healing abilities, her force could have effortlessly strip flesh from human bones.
