A professional female eSports player is facing major backlash after it was revealed she wasn’t actually playing the games herself. This shocking deception has rocked the competitive gaming world and created problems for her teammates during a tournament.
Competitive video gaming, or eSports, is now a major scene with opportunities for players to become famous and win substantial prizes. Sadly, this level of competition sometimes leads to cheating, resulting in players losing their wins and, in some cases, having to publicly apologize – as happened with cheaters in Fortnite tournaments. However, it’s very rare to discover someone has reached a high level in a competition without actually playing the game themselves.
eSports Competitor Never Played Games Herself
Okay, so there’s been a huge drama in the Arena of Valor scene at the Southeast Asian Games. This player, Tokyogurl – her real name is Warasin Naphat – was competing for Thailand, and officials noticed something seriously off during her gameplay. It turns out she wasn’t actually playing the game herself! She was streaming someone else playing through Discord and pretending it was her. They caught her, obviously, and she got kicked out of the tournament immediately. The worst part? Her whole team pulled out, even though they’d already made it to the finals. It’s a total mess, and everyone’s talking about it.
Following the controversy, Tokyogurl initially claimed she hadn’t done anything wrong, but more details have emerged. Another professional Arena of Valor player, known as Cheerio, posted a TikTok video explaining that he was the one actually playing the game, and that the gameplay was being shared on Tokyogurl’s phone. He apologized, stating he didn’t mean for the situation to become so public and disappoint so many, and that he would take responsibility for his actions. Tokyogurl has since posted a simple “I’m sorry” message on Facebook, seemingly admitting her involvement in the cheating.
This event will have long-term effects on both players involved. Tokyogurl lost her contract with her team and has been permanently banned from competing by RoV Esports – though she wasn’t actively playing the game, it’s unlikely she would have qualified for future competitions anyway. Cheerio’s career is also at risk. The President of the Asian Electronics Sports Federation and the head of the Thailand eSports Association are pursuing legal action against both of them to the fullest extent possible.
Cheating Doesn’t Pay
Tokyogurl’s team noticed some concerning signs before the competition, including her refusal to train in person and her habit of concealing her hands during gameplay streams. While she may have been able to deceive viewers during livestreams, competitions require much closer examination to guarantee a fair playing field. She was added to the national team based on her online popularity, skipping the usual tryouts – a decision that now appears to have been an error.
Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around why Cheerio and Tokyogurl thought this was a good plan. It’s especially rough for Cheerio, because from what I understand, he was a legit player before this, and now he’s probably banned from future tournaments. They’re definitely not the first esports players to try and cheat, but wow, this scheme really blew up in their faces. It was a total disaster for both of them.
