The gaming world remains uncertain about Monolith’s take on the iconic superheroine, Wonder Woman, as there have been no significant developments since its unveiling in 2021. So far, our knowledge of the game is limited to a brief glimpse from its trailer and the confirmation that it will incorporate Monolith’s well-loved Nemesis System, which they previously used in both Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.
In both games, the Nemesis System was highly appreciated, making it understandable that Monolith would choose to carry it on. Yet, when discussing Shadow of War, there’s a particular gameplay aspect that Wonder Woman might find useful. Shadow of War introduced Siege Missions, which played an essential part in the overall gameplay. Considering this, Siege Missions could be effectively reintroduced within the setting of Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman Should Bring Back Shadow of War’s Siege Mission
How Siege Missions Work
- Fortresses can either be defended or attacked, depending on the player’s role in the scenario.
- Attackers must break down fortress barriers to enter.
- Once inside, attackers must capture several Victory Points.
- After securing all the Victory Points, the fortress’ Overlord must be defeated.
- Once defeated, the fortress is won by the attacking force.
In the Siege Missions, players engage in an exciting tug-of-war scenario against antagonistic forces. Regardless if you’re on defense or offense, these missions provide a tough test, and their narrative significance adds a layer of tension that makes them nerve-wracking. Monolith Software has always been known for its robust games, but the inclusion of Sieges in Shadow of War elevated its strategic elements to new peaks.
As of now, Monolith’s plans for Wonder Woman promise a single-player open-world experience.
Wonder Woman’s Enemies Could Present Hurdles for Siege Missions
Due to the clandestine character of Wonder Woman, specific enemies that gamers might face remain undisclosed. Although it’s plausible that creatures from Greek mythology may show up, it’s hoped that there will be a broader range too. For one reason, integrating the Nemesis System in Wonder Woman could prove challenging if the threats were limited to monsters, and two, repeatedly battling only mythical beings might become repetitive.
In other words, there might be some kind of foe resembling humans in Siege Missions if they return, and these could potentially serve as the opponents players face off against. The enigmatic adversaries in Wonder Woman’s storyline are one of the many mysteries that gamers are eagerly waiting to solve, but it remains uncertain when those answers will be revealed.
The Next Wonder Woman Reveal is Still Unclear
The game based on Wonder Woman, which has been notoriously associated with development purgatory due to Monolith’s extended silence since its announcement, has sparked concerns about its eventual release. Fortunately, a glimmer of optimism has emerged that hints at progress in the project’s production. Most recently, Monolith revamped their website to feature Wonder Woman prominently. Although this update did not signify an upcoming announcement at the 2024 Game Awards as some speculated, it does suggest that the team is still actively working on the project.
Wonder Woman was originally announced at the 2021 Game Awards.
Due to the volatile and uncertain character of the gaming industry, it’s plausible that Monolith could catch fans off guard with an announcement at any moment. However, it’s more probable that the studio will save its next big reveal for a larger gaming gathering such as Summer Game Fest or Gamescom. For now, we can only speculate about which additional features Wonder Woman might borrow from Shadow of War.
