  • The Nemesis System may not translate well with ancient Greek monsters.
  • Monolith’s Wonder Woman game needs the Nemesis System to shine in order to be a new bright spot among DC games.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen the rise and fall of many superhero games. The prospect of Monolith’s Wonder Woman game is a tantalizing one, especially considering their stellar work on Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. However, recent leaks about Greek mythological monsters as enemies have me a bit apprehensive.

At present, Monolith’s take on Wonder Woman is uncertain, yet it remains captivating. Given that they masterfully created Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Monolith has the skill to weave a riveting narrative around DC Comics’ iconic Amazonian heroine. Regarding Wonder Woman, not much information is available at this time; however, recent whispers suggest potential insights into the game’s adversaries.

The leaks imply that the movie “Wonder Woman” may draw heavily on Greek mythology for its central conflict. Initially, incorporating creatures from Greek mythology as adversaries in a game appears to be a brilliant idea, as it effectively tackles the challenge often faced by superhero games regarding the creation of formidable enemies capable of withstanding extraordinary power. However, this approach also raises concerns about Monolith’s signature element: the Nemesis System.

Monolith’s Rumored Wonder Woman Enemies Could Be at Odds With the Nemesis System

The Nemesis System May Not Translate Well With Ancient Greek Monsters

Monolith’s Nemesis System is one of the biggest innovations in modern gaming. How the Nemesis System works is simple enough, but it’s a massive game-changer that didn’t seem possible until Monolith pulled it off. Essentially, when players get killed by a random enemy NPC or an enemy survives an encounter with the player, the game will promote and empower that NPC, making them more dangerous and encouraging the player to go on a pursuit for revenge. This creates a unique recurring enemy unlike any other playthrough, making each experience unique to the player.

The implementation of the Nemesis System is one of the defining innovations in 21st-century gaming, but Wonder Woman‘s rumored mythical focus could be a poor fit for the Nemesis System. There are hopes that Wonder Woman will blend the Nemesis System with Arkham-style combat, but the possible mythological enemies are not a promising sign. Going up against a Hydra or Cerberus could be incredible, but these creatures presumably don’t have the same emotional depth that the Orcs of Shadow of Mordor do. Shadow of Mordor‘s Orcs still think like humans, so they can have the emotional capacity to lead them to revenge. As far as it’s known, the creatures of Greek myth don’t have these same thoughts and feelings.

1. Overcoming this obstacle is the greatest challenge for Wonder Woman. The game’s Nemesis System is crucial for showcasing Monolith’s unique prowess, yet it remains uncertain how to integrate this system seamlessly into a narrative involving mythical beings.

Wonder Woman Can Flip Greek Mythology On Its Head

There is, however, one route for Wonder Woman to go that could make the developer’s Nemesis System shine once again. Despite reports that Wonder Woman‘s development is not going well, the game has yet to be canceled. As long as the game seems to be continuing its production, Wonder Woman is still a real possibility. An Arkham-inspired take on the DC heroine is something that many fans have been dreaming of, but the Nemesis System has to shine as well. Monolith could take some extensive liberties with Greek mythology and give mythological creatures, like the aforementioned Hydra and Cerberus, human-like personalities that could essentially set the stage for other characters of the same species seeking revenge.

Due to the less-than-impressive performance of recent DC games, there’s a great deal of anticipation surrounding Wonder Woman. Games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights didn’t exactly set the world on fire, but with Wonder Woman, there’s a glimmer of optimism. As more information about its development at Monolith becomes available, we can only hope for a detailed look at the Nemesis System they’re working on for it.
