Wondering What Phantoms Do In Elden Ring Nightreign? Here’s Everything You Need To Know

As a devoted fan, I’ve always admired how Phantoms are an integral part of FromSoftware’s games, offering a unique multiplayer experience. They let me observe fellow players’ actions and even investigate their bloodstains to learn about their unfortunate demises in the Souls series. In Elden Ring, this feature was carried over, but I can’t help but wonder, is this still the case for the upcoming expansion, Elden Ring Nightreign?

Since it’s a multiplayer roguelike game, several systems required significant modifications, which is understandable. Luckily, phantoms reappear, although not exactly like in other games. In this case, the red and white phantoms serve an entirely new role.

Are There Phantoms In Elden Ring Nightreign?

To put it simply, yes, the Red and White Phantoms do appear in the game. However, their roles have changed compared to how they operated previously. Originally, both types of phantoms were visible during live gameplay, but you couldn’t engage with them in any manner.

In the game Nightreign, the White Phantoms work quite similarly to what I’ve encountered before. However, given that the world is randomly generated and terrain can change at any moment, the appearance of White Phantoms is significantly less frequent. Red Phantoms, on the other hand, still signal the demise of fellow gamers, although the cause of death is no longer visible to me. Despite this, they might be even more valuable as they seem to serve a purpose beyond just forewarning about impending peril.

What Each Phantom Does In Elden Ring Nightreign

In previous Souls games, phantoms were a familiar feature, and that remains true for Elden Ring as well. However, in this installment, they function differently compared to their roles in the past.

  • White Phantoms

    1. You’ll find them in two different ways: either in the grassy area near the entryway of the Roundtable Hold, or as living specters roaming around Limveld.

    2. They appear in two distinct locations – either in the grassy area at the entrance to the Roundtable Hold, or as ghostly beings you’ll encounter in Limveld.

    3. In two different settings, they can be found: at the grassy entryway of the Roundtable Hold, or as living apparitions within Limveld.

    4. They are located in two places – one is the grassy area at the entrance of the Roundtable Hold, while the other is where you’ll encounter live phantoms in Limveld.

Items located within the Roundtable Hold remain stationary, serving to demonstrate the gear utilized by a character in a triumphant battle against a Nightlord. These items hold no additional function besides indicating their victorious status.

Characters encountered in Limveld are notably scarce, and they behave similarly to white specters in the original Elden Ring. They represent another player’s actions within the game world, and walking past them will fully replenish your Arts Gauge. Therefore, if you come across one, be sure to walk through it.

  • Red Phantoms

In the game, Red Phantoms are encountered more frequently due to their challenging nature. Unlike the reprisal in Elden Ring’s original version, these Red Phantoms depict the demise of another Nightfarer.

Instead, they will appear as a stationary ghostly figure kneeling in the place where they fell. You can engage with these ghosts to cause them to release all the equipment the player was carrying at the time of their demise, which could be an excellent method for acquiring exceptionally potent gear.

In addition to their existing attributes, each Nightfarer will acquire a distinct Grief trait that enhances their weapons. For instance, Wylder’s Grief boosts Strength and Dexterity. This added advantage can be utilized by any Nightfarer wielding the weapon, not just the original one.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but notice that Phantoms now play a more impactful role in the game than ever before, despite being less common compared to their past appearances.
