As a huge fan of collecting appearances in World of Warcraft, I’m really excited about the new transmog system coming with Midnight! I was a little worried when I saw in the beta that you had to unlock outfits on each of my characters, but Blizzard just confirmed that won’t be the case. Thankfully, all the unlocks will be account-wide when Midnight officially launches. That’s a huge relief, even if collecting everything will still be a bit of a gold grind!
A big update coming in World of Warcraft: Midnight is a redesigned transmog system. Instead of applying appearances to individual gear pieces, players will unlock and create full Outfits that can be quickly changed or automatically used in specific situations. While switching between Outfits will be free, some World of Warcraft players found unlocking and setting them up to be too costly.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Transmog Outfit Unlocks Becoming Account-Wide
The good news is that the cost of character customization options will likely be reduced. Currently, in the World of Warcraft: Midnight beta, players start with two free outfits, but unlocking all 20 available outfits costs a significant amount of gold – around 800,000 total. While unlocking outfits is currently done separately for each character, Blizzard has announced that they plan to make these unlocks apply to your entire account before Midnight officially launches.
Kaivax shared more positive news, confirming that the price of unlocking outfits won’t increase during the beta. He also suggested prices might even decrease, stating they’ll closely monitor player feedback and adjust costs as needed. This means the current outfit prices aren’t set in stone, and while unlocking them will likely require a significant amount of in-game gold, the cost for some of the more expensive options could be lowered before the game officially launches.

Players who enjoy customizing their character’s appearance will be happy with this change. Some dedicated roleplayers collect many different outfits for each character, and they were worried the new Outfit system would be too expensive. While Outfits still aren’t cheap, linking them to the account-wide Warbands system in World of Warcraft makes them much more affordable for those who want to use the feature fully.
The big update to how transmog works is expected to launch with the pre-patch for World of Warcraft: Midnight. While we don’t have a specific release date yet, clues suggest it could arrive as early as January 20th, right after the Legion Remix content. Players who want to test the new system and share their thoughts with Blizzard can do so through the ongoing Midnight beta.
