The Classic+ Project, a community initiative focused on World of Warcraft Classic, has released the results of its recent survey. For years, World of Warcraft players have been hoping for an official announcement about Classic+. This project allows players to share their ideas with Blizzard, the game developer, about what they’d like to see in a future release.
Classic+ is envisioned as an evolution of the original 2004 version of World of Warcraft, with the addition of fresh content. This could include things like new playable class and race pairings, challenging new raids, and enhancements to existing class specializations. Blizzard has suggested that details about Classic+ might be revealed at BlizzCon 2026, which is scheduled to start on September 12th.
What Players Want From an Official WoW Classic+
The Classic+ Project has been gathering feedback on all aspects of World of Warcraft Classic, including how items work and the leveling process. A recent survey of over 20,000 players revealed that a large majority – 61.1% – prefer the current leveling experience without any changes. While 28.6% expressed interest in faster leveling, 63.7% didn’t want level caps that change over time. Season of Discovery offered a similar phased approach to content, dividing gameplay into levels 25, 40, 50, and 60, and was the closest experience players have had to the proposed Classic+.
A recent survey of over 41,000 players revealed that more than half (51.1%) don’t want a transmog system in Classic+. Transmog, which first appeared in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, lets players change how their gear looks without altering its stats. While transmog has been a popular feature in World of Warcraft for years, it’s been significantly updated with the upcoming World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion.
Joardee, the lead on this project and a popular streamer, shared with TopMob that the team will be releasing more surveys soon. Right now, they’re focused on creating an animated video based on a story chosen by the World of Warcraft Classic community for Joardee’s YouTube series. This will be similar to the animation they made for The Classic+ Project. Players can vote for which custom scenario they want to see animated on the project’s website. Joardee and his team expect to release the video in the coming months, with plans for more episodes later on.
Joardee noted that the posts on the content pages are amazing, showcasing players’ impressive understanding of the game – what strategies work and what doesn’t.
Josh Greenfield, a Blizzard developer who works on World of Warcraft Classic, reacted to a recent YouTube video by Joardee about a fan-made project related to the game. While Blizzard hasn’t officially contacted Joardee, the reaction suggests they’re aware of his team’s work. Joardee previously mentioned he wasn’t expecting an official response, but would appreciate some recognition. The project aims to provide helpful resources for the game’s developers and demonstrate what the community wants in a potential Classic+ expansion.
Joardee was happy that the team acknowledged they understood the point being made. She felt that simple acknowledgment was enough to consider that aspect of the work a success.
Just because someone at Blizzard commented on a YouTube post doesn’t mean the developers will actually use ideas from The Classic+ Project survey in future updates to the 21-year-old game. Still, it’s good to see the development team acknowledging the player feedback. We might find out more about Blizzard’s plans for World of Warcraft Classic later this year at BlizzCon.
