As a seasoned World of Warcraft player with countless hours spent traversing the mystical lands of Azeroth, I can confidently say that Hallow’s End is one of my favorite events! It’s not just about the spooky atmosphere and the adorable squashlings, but also the plethora of rewards up for grabs.
It’s not unusual that many holidays in the World of Warcraft are modeled after real-world holidays. For instance, Hallow’s End is similar to Halloween in our world. Across Azeroth, you will see pumpkin-like jack-o-lanterns, spooky decorations, and plenty of rewards themed around Halloween.
At each tavern during Hallow’s End, you’ll find candy buckets filled with sweets and gold (plus EXP if you’re not at maximum level). This annual event takes place from October 25th to November 8th. Here’s a rundown of what you can expect, as well as the rewards you can collect.
All Hallow’s End Activities
Every Halloween season in Azeroth, I always make it a point to swing by each inn I come across for some sweet treats and cool loot from their candy buckets. Even though I may have visited them last year, they all get refreshed anew as Hallow’s End rolls back around. The one exception? Shadowlands – sadly, no candy buckets there!
In every initial zone, you’ll find a town with tasks suitable for Hallow’s End celebrations. Regularly, the Headless Horseman will materialize, causing buildings to ignite. Your task is to gather water buckets and douse the flames promptly. If you and your teammates succeed in extinguishing the fires swiftly, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in combat against the Headless Horseman. A few hits should be enough to defeat him, leaving his head behind for a new daily quest.
When it comes to the character known as the Headless Horseman, he serves a similar role during Hallow’s End as Coren Direbrew does for Brewfest and Ahune for Midsummer Fire Festival. Just as you can join a queue to battle these other characters, so too can you engage in combat with the Headless Horseman.
From 2023 onwards, the Headless Horseman battle has undergone an update. It’s no longer just about damaging the head when it appears; the encounter has been made more intricate. Despite this, the fight remains relatively straightforward. To increase the challenge, you can utilize Wicker Man statues. These statues intensify the difficulty of the battle substantially, but their debuffs only impact the individual who triggers them, leaving the rest of your party unaffected.
If you successfully vanquish the Headless Horseman while the Wicker Man statues are activated, it boosts your likelihood of obtaining the Headless Horseman mount from the Jack-o’-Lantern filled with Treasure. Note that this is in addition to any rewards you get from the Jack-o’-Lantern itself. The Headless Horseman can drop these rings at a maximum item level of 554, but only outside the Jack-o’-Lantern.
- Band of the Petrified Pumpkin
- Seal of Ghoulish Glee
- The Horseman’s Ring
- Wicked Witch’s Signet
After that, there’s the Daily Loot-Bearing Pumpkin, obtainable once daily per character. This pumpkin not only holds the sought-after mount but also offers the Headless Horseman’s helmet and sword as loot. Furthermore, you might be lucky enough to receive the Sinister Squashling and Hallowed Helm, which are crucial for the “Dark Summoning” achievement.
All Hallow’s End Rewards
Apart from loot obtained from the Headless Horseman or Jack-o’-Lantern, most of the event’s rewards are available for purchase from vendors in Orgrimmar and Stormwind. These vendors offer a diverse range of cosmetic items. Some, such as Chub and Dorothy, specialize in toys, while Woim and Pippi focus on pets. Regardless of their specific location, each vendor carries the same types of items.

As a gamer, I’ll be swapping out gold for a new currency called Tricky Treats to grab items during this event. You can snag these Tricky Treats by wrapping up daily quests, cracking open the Loot-Filled Pumpkin, and sometimes even from candy buckets scattered across Azeroth. To max out your rewards, remember to hit every Candy Bucket daily, take on all the day’s quests, and don’t forget to give ol’ Headless Horseman a visit at least once per day. And if you want an extra 10 Tricky Treats, you can complete either “Hallow’s End Treats for Jasper!” (Alliance) or “Hallow’s End Treats for Spoops!” (Horde).
No sweat if you can’t grab all the goodies during this year’s Hallow’s End! The fun part is that all these rewards come back each new season, giving you another chance to collect them next time around, even though you’ll need to earn those Tricky Treats anew.
Besides the various rewards up for grabs during Hallow’s End, you also have an opportunity to secure the prestigious title of “The Hallowed”. By accomplishing the tasks detailed below, you will be awarded this distinguished title.
