World of Warcraft: Dastardly Duos Event, Explained

As a dedicated World of Warcraft gamer, I can recall periods in earlier expansions where the wait between major updates felt endless. Sometimes, it seemed like there was nothing fresh to explore or conquer within the game for as long as a year. Thankfully, Blizzard has taken notice and now delivers smaller, more frequent patches packed with side content that keeps us players engaged and entertained.

Alongside the reimagined terrifying visions of Stormwind and Orgrimmar, there’s a temporary event called Dastardly Duos. During this event, you can team up to battle former dungeon bosses, aiming for the highest score to boast about your achievements. Some rewards are also up for grabs in this activity.

How to Start Dastardly Duos in World of Warcraft

Just like many happenings in World of Warcraft, a main gathering spot exists where you can locate the vendor and associated quests. Your initial destination is Dornogal’s city entrance.

If you lean more towards your faction’s main city, there are also central locations in Orgrimmar (at the peak of the city gate) and Stormwind (near the city entrance). No matter which central spot you choose, you can always encounter the same Non-Player Characters.

Xyggie Marou is the NPC you want to talk to in order to queue into Dastardly Duos.

Make it a point to stop by Vinnie Sweets’ place initially as he has a special weekly mission lined up for the Dastardly Duos. Don’t forget to check it out!

Eventually, you’ll find Wodin, the Troll Attendant, who offers food bonuses and prizes you can acquire by taking part in Dastardly Duos.

In the end, there is Wodin, the Troll Helper, who deals food boosts and rewards that you can get from joining Dastardly Duos.

Dastardly Duos, Explained

Essentially, Dastardly Duos functions as a competitive mode under a time constraint. You can join this activity with up to five players, and if there are empty spots, they’ll be filled by automated characters. Therefore, it is possible for you to play Dastardly Duos alone, much like Delves or Follower Dungeons.

Upon entering Dastardly Duos, you’ll find yourself standing just outside the battlefield. Prior to the game commencing, feel free to indulge in some refreshments available on-site. Consuming these items will grant you a boost, and you can only have one food and one drink buff active at any given time.

Certain foods can only show up when explicitly requested from Wodin prior to entering the Dastardly Duos game.

Food Buff Effect
Beefy Burger You do 15% more damage and take 15% less damage.
“Challenging” Shrimpy Fish You do 20% less damage and take 25% more damage, but your score is doubled.
Hearty Haunch You take 80% less physical damage, 40% less magic damage, do 40% less damage, and generate signifcantly more threat
“Challenging” Hot Dog Double score, but you periodically leave acid on the ground. Acid causes both allies and enemies to get knocked back.
Drink Buff Effect
Vial of Healing You heal 8% of your health every 2 seconds.
Bottle of Invisibility Makes you invisible.
Can of Amps Increases movement speed by 50%.

When you’re all set, make your way to the entrance for the commencement of a countdown before the game begins. Dastardly Duos operates like a mini-dungeon where you slay multiple common enemies and then engage in battles against bosses. In this experience, you’ll encounter various old dungeon bosses from the original WoW, The Burning Crusade, Cataclysm, and Wrath of the Lich King. Each round includes two randomly chosen bosses, and once both have been defeated, another pair will appear.

At the start of a game, you’ll encounter a movable object called a Cheery Bomb. This bomb, which moves when interacted with, leaves a circle around it. Enemies killed within this circle will have their points-earning potential doubled and fill a bar. Once filled, the points earned from these enemies will be doubled, but the bomb will stop moving. Remember, it won’t move again after filling up. During boss fights, keep an eye out for dropped gears. These gears grant extra time, so don’t forget to collect them as you progress.

After blasting through the two successive waves of enemies in this Dastardly Duos game, a treasure chest materializes alongside a teleporter, whisking me back to our base. I’m also treated to my total score for the battle royale, calculated based on the amount of harm I inflicted, the length of the match, and the number of times I was taken down by opponents.

During this event, there’s a weekly target score that you should aim for. Accomplish this goal every week, and you’ll earn an achievement. For your first week, try to gather at least 300,000 points, while by the end of the event, the top score is one million points.

All Dastardly Duos Rewards

Most of the prizes for this occasion are related to appearance. Wodin the Troll Servant offers ornate armor for shoulders, which you can acquire after unlocking and purchasing it with 500 Resonance Crystals apiece. Additionally, there’s a prize up for grabs from each weekly mission you complete.

  • First week: Dastardly Banner (Toy)
  • Second week: Winner’s Podium (Toy)
  • Third week: Spicy Mean Ball (Battle Pet)
  • Fourth week: Tyrannotort’s Treat (Mount)

Additionally, you receive a Weekly Wicked Reward Pouch every week, filled with useful goods for nefarious teams and an item of top-tier Champion equipment.
